OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

If you are feeling adventurous, try the duck breast sandwich and fries fried in duck fat at the Tattooed Moose. It's kind of a funky place that was recommended by a friend of ours. I'm not really a fan of duck, but it was pretty amazing. It has kind of a pub type atmosphere so I wouldn't recommend it for young kids.

Not sure if married sailors are required to move off base. My sailor bought a car just before he graduated from Power School.

Anyone here in the San Francisco Bay Area? I'm going there for a few days next week and would love to meet up with anyone who lives close-by! If you leave me a pm let me know on this board so I know to check my messages.

Comment by AZ2OH2IL2UT on February 9, 2018 at 6:34pm: My son had his car during A school. Once he phased up, he was able to get a pass for it on base and drive whenever. This was at GC. He graduated from A school in December 2017. We had his car shipped there.

Can't help with any watch information. I just know my son bought a regular watch to wear. Nothing fancy at all.

Comment by SubMom on February 9, 2018 at 6:34pm: Mrskath - They have to have a black watch and if I remember correctly they are issued the Casio in boot camp. No electronics of any kind in certain areas.

Chipmunk - I think you asked about having a car. Our son said they walk everywhere 1st phase (can possibly have a bike?). Car is permitted 2nd phase and 3rd phase they are living off base. Not sure how entirely accurate this is but it might help regarding a timeline.

Mrstkath you have to be active, retired or a DOD employee to shop at the NEX.

Comment by DSmom on February 9, 2018 at 6:30pm: I wasn't able to -- only military can -- retired & active duty. Veteran can't -- at least my husband -- a vet -- wasn't able to. But his sister (retired) can and do. I don't know about Active Reserved.

No cars during A-school. They apparently can have them during power school and prototype though.
