Navy/Army Mom.....Wow, what beautiful words!!! You have a talent, this one is a keeper. I write poetry and not everyone can write like this. If you don't mind I am going to write this down for my son and hang on to it. Tears to the eyes it did bring, but I thank you for being here, when my thoughts I need to share.

Thank you, everyone! Like I said, Plyfer just struck my heart, It struck me enough to not be too embarrased to write it and post it! LOL.

Well, it's important and good for all of us to let our emotions out from time to time. We all do a great job of mostly being very strong.

I'm off to the grocery store, and while I'm going down the aisles I'll feel proud to be the mom of a U.S. Sailor AND a U.S. Soldier!! It's pretty awesome even though it can be very hard. :)

Tricia, Your poem is beautiful! It made me cry. You captured the emotions that run through us moms so well. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Stephanie-Have you seen the US postal services flat rate boxes? There motto is, "If it fits, it ships." I sent a package to my son that way and saved $25 in shipping costs. They also have military discounts for things sent to APOs and FPOs, and SOME military bases. I didn't get that discount because I was sending to a PMB, not a base address. I'll have to check to see if stateside bases even count.

It is very hard I am a first mom too... but I had an advantage that Thomas went away to college... He is a Mechanical Engineer. He is also my best friend. I love Thomas but I am so very proud of the man he has become. Empty Nest syndrome is difficult..but you know what .. they go from little boys to men but they are still and always will be your child...That love never changes...

Pylfer, I wrote this for you last night. I felt bad for you and for all the other moms who are new and just getting started and it's so hard. So this is for you and for them and for all of us. It's very amateur but anyone is more than welcome to use it. Have a nice day and thank you for sharing your feelings with us. Tricia

I stare out the window and
Look at the yard,
You're all that I see
It’s so very hard.

I see you out there as a tot
And a teen,
The most innocent person that
I've ever seen.

You built ships with your legos
And watched the TV,
But now you get ready to
Sail out to sea.

We hope that you're happy, healthy
And strong,
We hope that this trip won't take
Too very long,

We'll need to have faith and
Pray each day,
To get us all through this, it's
The only way

We love you, we'll miss you, we
Thank you so much,
For serving our country,
Our hearts you do touch.

You're wise and honest, so strong and so brave, we
Ask for God's watch as you pass through each wave.

I look out the window and guess who I see,
A brave U.S. Sailor who's keeping us free.

Pylfer, I couldn't say it better than Pat and Navy/Army Mom. Stay with us, pour out your sadness to us. We can relate. We have been through it and are still going through it on occasion.
It is really hard to have the child we love so deeply and take care of daily, suddenly so far away!! ...and now dependent on the Navy instead of us. The Navy won't care for them the way we do, but that's a good thing. The Navy matures them, makes them strong and independent, and gives them skills they can use for the rest of their lives whether they stay in the Navy or not.
Lean on us Pylfer. We'll be your shoulder to cry on and we'll prop you up until you can stand on your own again. Soon, you'll be giving the same advice to someone else. :-)
