I have a question that maybe someone could answer for me...

My BF is graduating BC in GL on 10/15 and heading to nuke school in SC. When your sailor graduated from GL were they grad & go or did they have liberty weekend? I know it is different or can be each time but I was just wondering if there seemed to be a trend....? Also, I know once he starts school there are only certain times that you can get married...? What are the specifics on that?

maddiesmommy is right, if your son was also on the lease then she should be able to get out of it, because once married all assets are legally combined. however, there are loop holes even with that. If there wasn't even a discussion about him joining the military before signing the lease, the landlord holds the right to not break the lease.

Maureen, did they both sign the lease or just her? My husband and I weren't married when we signed our lease but after we got married and were stationed here in Goose Creek we were able to get out do to the military clause in the lease.. The landlady can't do anything if they got married and then he had orders to move. We went through the same thing. I had to contact people about the situation because she was going to make us pay if we couldn't find someone to sublease. I don't know what would of happened because we found someone the day he came home to get me, but going through craigslist to find someone to sublease is a good idea. Really if that would help them get out of paying the rent.
you can always contact the Apartment Association for your area and ask them what to do as well. That's who i had to contact. hope that helps

Maureen- I don't have experience with this, but legally your DIL is responsible for the lease. Since they weren't married BEFORE she started renting the place, the Service Member Relief Act doesn't apply to her, unless she had it in writing that she had previously negotiated a similar clause into the contract. I am sorry to hear this especially since newlyweds have to save as much as possible as well as her moving expenses. My suggestion is to have her try and sublet the apt for the rest of the lease, that would be the best way to deal with it. tell her to put ads up on craigs list, and roommates.com... those will probably get the most notice.

FOUND THE PUPPY'S owner!!!

she came by the next day!! she was handing out flyers and saw that i had her dog, now i know where the pup belongs if she ever comes to visit

if you don't find the owner, take her to your vet or humane society (the police might be able to do it also). They can scan to see if the puppy is microchipped and then can contact the owner.
