Ashley-thanks for letting me know. Yeah we've been married since July '09 and he's in Charleston now.. I guess he's doing random work and attending different briefings.. but he said he's getting the keys Wednesday and will be flying home on the same day to get me and the kids. We have to be in charleston by 7am on Sunday! So I'm not sure when we're planning on heading down there with the kids. Can't wait to get started though! Even though... the moving company is stressing me out big time

Hey ladies, I've been following N4M for months now but I just never joined. So I thought it was finally time for me to say hi! I'm in a unique situation in that "my" Nuke is not my husband or fiance and honestly we aren't even bf/gf officially. There's no title here lol. I met him only weeks before he left for bootcamp (he's now in the middle of A School) so it's kinda been a whirlwind every since and definitely a struggle. But reading all your posts has been amazing! You guys have been answering my questions without me even asking. I visited Charleston about a month ago and it was an awesome trip. Hopefully there will be another visit down the road. Thanks girls :)

My husband is flying out Wednesday night to pick me and our son up! Then we have a nice long drive back to SC with our truck! So I hope to meet some of you soon. I wish we would have more info about everything! But he says they will tell him everything on Tuesday and he gets to see the house for the first time on Wednesday morning...

Casey-yeah i've seen random ppl from Indiana on here! I'm from Michigan City. Soo, I guess... an hour away from Chicago. Can't wait to get down there.. From what Greg tells me, we have to be moved in By 7am on Sunday!

My husband will flying back up here to Indiana on Wednesday. I'm not sure on the exact day we're moving down there, but it'll be this week. But the bad thing is how we hired a moving company and now we won't get our stuff until a week and a half after we move in.. oh well. I heard there's a loaner's closet of some sort? Til we get our stuff? Anyway, I'm really excited.. my husband's really enjoying it down there

If he is in SC with his car (but still reg in Calif.) there is a form you can fill out (Statement of Facts) and there is no smog required until it's back in Calif like if he is stationed here. If you are transfering the car between relatives there is no fees like taxes to pay (maybe a small fee to put his name on pink slip.) The only problem we found was when our son would be able to go to the local DMV in SC and take their driving test as school took up all his time and it wasn't until T-track until he had time during the week to leave base on a weekday, plus he wants keep his voter reg in California so wanted to keep his drivers license here in Calif and his reg fees aren't very high here. As a side note, my husband and I took a little vacation and drove his car out to him for his A School graduation. It was a wonderful experience, got to see some of the country I've never seen and saw our son graduate and meet a lot of his friends.

Dana...I live in California now and my son's car is in my name. He is not at Nuke school yet but should be shortly after 6/4. We are researching what to do about his car. It seems if we keep it registered here we pay much much more and it needs to be smogged every two years. This is done electronically so I don't know how that would happen. Once he's there I think it's time for him to put it in his name and do everything in S Carolina.

I recommend that you switch over all of your driving stuff to South Carolina while your here. The licenses last 10 years, the registration is renewable by mail and is 18 dollars every 2 years, taxes are waived for military members and South Carolina law says that you never need to change your insurance from South Carolina so long as your registration is there. Not to mention that as a Nuke if you do stay in chances are your Shore Duty will be in South Carolina. So this will carry you until you get out or come back.
