to carry their laptop they need an all black backpack with absolutely nothing on it (no logos, strings, etc). It would be wise to get this before you go to the airport because the only place to get one there is Brooksbrothers and it's $100. But if you can find a backpack that also has a pocket for laptops, he can put it in there. trust me. there are a bunch of rules about what all extra they can carry and how while in uniform.

Catie- that would be so cool if we got that house next to you. Is it a new house? Im back home in Cali now and feeling really depressed. I want to be out there now :( I think maybe we will do the DITY move and just have Brent fly home and we will hire a moving company to move our stuff, sell our car and then he can just fly back. He is going to call me tonight from the airport, I can't wait :)

Ok...is the USO at O'Hare? Or Midway? Where in the airport is it? Do they usually fly Delta?

If you go to the airport with them canyou give them a computer then. He has a computer bag that could hold all the paperwork, too. I hate to have to mail a laptop.

Or you can do what some of my boyfriends shipmates did and find someone who's family is staying to see them off at the airport and give them things they really want, like phones. Needless to say, we had about 3 phones at the airport. but it worked out really nicely.

If he is Grad 'n Go and you can meet him at the airport you can give him anything he can carry-on (like in a small bag or backpack) if not you will have to mail it to him.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what you can give your son at PIR to take to Charleston? Do you have to have any clothes he wants shipped or can you give him a pair of shorts and a t-shirt? What about a laptop? Can they take that on the plane with them or a phone? Thanks

Thanks Catie! I have been talking to Ashley and as much as I hate to admit it, because I really really want Brent to be able to take leave and be able to spend some time with him, it sounds like it might be easier for us to do the Navy move. Especially since I don't graduate from college until May 24th and really cant afford to miss anymore because I missed a lot right before he left for BC
and now for PIR . Also, Ashley said the first 3 weeks of Aschool are the hardest and that I would probably barely see him. So as much as I HATE to admit to it, it is probably best to do the Navy move and fly there May 24th after I graduate! What do you guys think?
Comment by Cheyanna (Wife of Brent,Nuke MM) on April 24, 2010 at 10:30pm
Hey Girls-
So for the move. Brent should get about 9 days of leave. Since we live all the way in Califonria and I am busy with school it seems almost too much for us to drive cross country right now. We were thinking we would hire a mover to move our stuff for us and have Brent fly round trip for the leave. Do you know if we would be allowed to hire someone and would we be reinbursed for that or the flights? Im stressing!
