julie--you should weigh the truck full on your way here (there are lots of weigh stations on the highway..I think they are closed on sundays though)

the closest place to weight it empty is at the Charleston Air Force Base

Moving day is officially this friday! I'm so excited. My husband just called asking me to find a place to weigh the truck full & then empty. Does anyone know where this can be done around goose creek??? thanks!

Hi Lea--I'm in the same boat you are! The first 7 weeks of Prototype are actually the easiest...the schedule is 7:30am-7:30 pm and they get weekends off and fridays off early (at least that's how it is at prototype in SC). My husband is about halfway through prototype now...and a lot of the shifts are a lot worse. Luckily, I had college classes full time and internships p/t during all of his A and Power school, so I was busy and able to occupy myself. Now that I've graduated, I've been home a lot more (we're also moving soon--so no sense to get a job when I can only work 3 months..plus I'm almost 34 weeks pregnant)..I intern p/t and yes, it does get frustrating with the rotating shifts. sometimes, the only time I get to spend with him, I have to work..so I see where u are coming from. My advice is to just take advantage of the time you do have together and you'll make it through! :) Just look forward to the 30 days he gets off AFTER prototype :)

I agree with Cheyanna. I am new to this as well, but I think the benefits definitely outweigh the drawbacks.

From my experience thus far the Nuke program can be very challenging but I think the benefits far exceed the drawbacks. If your bf/husband is going to join the Navy anyway I would say go Nuke if he can. It is almost the only program where you are going to be able to at least join him right away for A school and live together during his schooling (which is much longer than most schools) I would prefer my husband be at school for long hours than at sea. I think they are treated better and far more respected as well. One drawback is that being a Nuke adds two years onto their contract but that also comes with a significant signing bonus (also not usually offered to the other programs) Now this is just my experience and my opinion, I am still new to this too! I can say the Navy in general is challenging and I do miss my husband a lot, but it is so worth it when we do get to spend time together!

hiswife530--i have heard that nukes are treated bad because they advance much quicker than regular enlisted folk. most nukes by the time they finish all their schooling are E4-E5..whereas regular enlisted jobs might take several more years to reach those ranks. another instance is when nukes get out of BC, they are E3, while everyone else is E1

Hi there! By now you should have been reunited with your BC graduate, congratulations :) I remember first being with my hubby, then boyfriend, and it was fantastic. Do you know when you're moving here? I'm sure I could try to answer any questions you might have - and if not, find someone who can! There is a mix of houses here, new and old, but both have their niceties. We personally have an old one, one of the few that hasn't been renovated, and you know what? We still love it. We also have a dog, but just got him recently. If you want a fenced in yard, that would be something to ask about when in the housing office. Let me know if you need anything and/or when you'll be here so we can welcome you!

I ladies! I am married to a wonderful man who joined the Navy about a year ago as a Nuke. He waited forever to leave for bootcamp but finally left March 1st and is now graduating BC on April 23rd. I am so so excited!! I get to join him out in Charleston and couldn't be happier. Can you ladies give me any insight? The houses on base look pretty nice and I will be working full time so I think the transition should be pretty easier. We have no children, just a big puppy :) Look forward to meeting some of you
