My son has also received his orders for OCS January 30. Any words of wisdom or assistance is appreciated. Let's keep in touch.
Hi Judy - I am corresponding with one other Mom who has a daughter in the 1-30-11 OCS class through a discussion in the "Moms of Officers" Group. Her name is Violet. Will you please join our discussion there? I posted my question in both groups.

What's your son's name and where are you from? Tina
Hi,

My daughter Bridget is in the Jan 30 class also. I am very interested in ANY advice. My stepson graduated OTS last Oct., all I know is that is very different and much shorter than OCS. He is in Jag stationed in Japan.

Thanks,
Mariellen
Hi Mariellen. My daughter Rachel starts on Jan 30th. I will send you a friend invite and then send you Rachel's email so that your daughter can get in touch with her. I have learned that there are relatively few young women who opt to become officers, however, they do try to put two a minimum of two women in each OCS class. It might jut be Bridget and Rachel.
Thanks, I would love to know how everything went for your daughter in OCS. Do you have an tips for getting through OCS?
Thank you so much for responding. Bridget is in Intelligence. What is Rachael pursuing? We are from Clarks Summit, Pa.
Rachel would have liked to have gotten Intelligence. She got Surface Warfare, but is happy to be in at all. The Navy only takes one in ten of all applications for OCS.
Bridget has a friend, female also, who went to the Naval Academy and is in Surface Warfare and loves it. It is an honor to be in at all, you are so right. I am a bit anxious about the whole thing. Bridget has lived at home for the past few years when she went to graduate school in Phila. and I have been very happy to have her here. Even when she went to undergrad school we talked many times a day. This whole not calling thing has got to be tough. Can you go with them to RI before they check in? Bridget is taking her car, I would love to be able to go. But then again, I wanted to go to the recruiter with her and she stopped me! I hope I don't sound to over protective.
Rachel and I talk everyday and sometimes several times a day. She is my only child and it will be quite an adjustment to not be able to hear from her throughout the day. Rachel graduated from PACE Univ. two years ago with a degree in Finance. She thought about going to law school and is presently working at Dreyfus in Manhattan in their legal dept. It's not for her.
We did go to the recruiter when Rachel took her Oath. It was wonderful. And of course I always say something to embarrass my daughter, much in the same way as my mother did to me when I was that age. We are taking Rachel up to RI two days before they check in. In the past some classes have met the night before for dinner. Check in is Sunday morning, if I am not mistaken. Rachel does not have a car, and has not driven for several years, but would like to buy something to take with her. (We hope that does not happen) BTW Rachel is 23 and will be turning 24 on March 27.
And, no you do not sound overprotective to me.
Thank you! We went when she took her Oath, I wanted to go to when she initially went to talk to them and she wouldn't let me. Actually, my husband said if I went they wouldn't let her in, I would scare them. ( I think he was kidding.) Her uncle did her Oath, he is an Air Force Officer. Bridget is 25, also a March baby, the 20th. I am happy to know you are going to RI with Rachel, I would like to do the same. Bridget has a serious boyfriend and I am not sure what plans they may have for their last weekend to gether. I TRY not to interfer there. Guess I'll have to take direction from Bridget regarding that.
Wow, her uncle did her oath. Very nice. Yeah we were kept from the Recruiter until the Oath. I was also told that I was not allowed to cry. I did pretty well for some one who cries during Hallmark commercials. LOL
Voilet - My daughter graduated with class 13-10 last year. We did go to Newport the day she reported to OCS and were allowed short visits toward the end of training. If you have any questions about females and OCS please feel free to contact me. My daughter is a SWO and a division officer on board an LHD out of San Diego now. My world was turned upside down during OCS and I have nothing but great things to say about the families I became friends with during the process, both at N4M and the 13-10 Face Book group. Hang in there and lean on each other. One thing I learned about OCS, it not only trains its candidates to be Navy Officers, it also trains us to be officers families. You will find out what I mean as your loved one (LO) progresses through training. Best wishes to all!
