This is the final test for your SRs.  It is an overnight 12 hr drill that tests them on all they have learned and may encounter when deployed on a ship.  It takes place on the Disney-created USS…Continue

Proud NaVy Mom, I work with a guy who went through BESS, and I'm fairly certain that he had all of his electronics with him.

Proud Navy Mom: Here is the link to the sub moms in Groton:

Let me know what you hear about the cell phones and laptap as my son is going to Groton as well. My understanding is that they can. But it would be good to hear it from the Groton ladies.

Also, my son says to bring UNDERWEAR!!!! They can wear civie underwear after BC and he says the recruit underwear is lousy.

Julie=WOW-I haven't even heard about that one...how cool is that?! :-)

Going to have to look that one up and/or you can tell us what that entails! I'd love to hear.

Iknow...SAILOR...we can now say, "My Sailor..." all we want!

The tears of joy haven't come yet...had a leaky shower to fix and then am on standby to go meet our equine vet to vaccinate my other son's horse. We've got Rhino-flu traveling down from Canada. (It has hit Bakersfield, so any of you mom's that know horse people here on the west coast , please let them know...even if you think they "might" already.)

I guess I am just "getting" a few things to keep it in check until I can have private time later! That way I can keep the VBG on my face

My heart is overflowing.

diannep:  Thanks & yes, I did post it on their site.  I hate to buy a laptop then find out he can't use it in his room or that it does him no good with his classwork.

ProudNavyMom:  Did you ask on the Groton School group?  Those ladies should know what they can and can't have since their sailors are already there.

Julie, yes, the capping ceremony is so emotional for them.  They are exhausted and at the end of their long road...one that they may have wondered at one time or another---if they would ever get to the end of ! I'm sure taking off that RECRUIT cap and putting on that NAVY cap never felt so good!  Congrats to your son...

And to all of the new sailors today!

Congratulations to all parents who have new Sailors today!!!  I am so happy and so proud for all of you!  Congratulations and hope you get more phone time with your new Sailors this weekend!  For the rest of y'all, guess we'll have to wait until after Captain's Cup to see what shakes out for us.  At this point I don't know when anything is going to happen!!!  Good luck to all of you as well.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with BESS in Groton, CT? I'm trying to find out if our SRs can bring cell phones, iPods, etc. and if there are computer connections in their quarters. We want to buy our SR a laptop for graduation but not unless he can actually use it at school. Please message me privately if you can give me any information. Thank you very much!!!!
