This is the final test for your SRs.  It is an overnight 12 hr drill that tests them on all they have learned and may encounter when deployed on a ship.  It takes place on the Disney-created USS…Continue

Proud Navy Mom,

My son stated in his letter last week that after bootcamp he can go back to wearing his old glasses.  He can't wait to quit wearing his BC glasses.

Lisa:  Maybe your SR was allowed to keep  (locked away) his glasses to wear when he is allowed to after the BCG's...

And I sure hope that the Navy ships move better than the mail!  So true!  :-)

Thanks diannep for the warning.  I might as well get used to delays and/or no mail if my SR does end up where he's planning on going; into submarines.  I'm sure there is NO contact whatsoever with them.  :-(

LisaB:  I thought they were able to keep glasses that they brought from home.  My son hasn't worn glasses since he was 10 so he had no glasses to take with him.  He has got to hate those things he's been wearing for the past 8-1/2 weeks.  Bet they took some getting used to.  Hope they don't have trouble putting their contacts in after all this time...

The mail "holdup" could be within the Navy system...wait until you write to them at a ship address one day!   I mean, a ship that is going nowhere!  That is the case with my son...dry docked ship.  He lives in shore barracks since the ship is being worked on, but has to have the ship address as his mailing address.  I sent something priority mail to him recently.  I tracked it.  Took only 3 days to get to the "Navy" mail system.  Took about 17 days to get to him!  Many open PO boxes in a regular post office to avoid this...but overnighting things is a problem.

MommaCindy:  We recommend that you all stop writing to your SRs about 10 days before PIR (which would be now for this group).  Forwarded mail doesn't always get to them.  But if you really want to continue to write, please make copies of those letters and carry them with you to PIR in case they didn't get them.

laurelbc:  If he can't make it to BS with his division (although I really hope that he does) I'm sure division 928 will welcome him with open arms!

Now y'all have me worried about the mail.  I didn't know that they mail has been slowed up due to the Osama thing.  I mailed 6 letters from his friends to him this past Monday, one from a friend that hadn't written to him the entire time he's been at boot camp.  I have been writing my SR daily also and just mailed his contacts in a box to him this past Monday.  He will be so disappointed if he has to graduate with those ugly glasses!!!!  I know he misses his contacts a LOT.  He's always shot guns and did everything else with his contacts so I'm sure he had to compensate for having those thick glasses on.  In ONE SHORT WEEK none of this will matter anymore!  At this time next week we'll be getting our seats in the stands and waiting to see our SRs graduate and become Sailors in the BEST NAVY IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!  Hooyah!

Thank you Dianne, Joanne, ProudNavyMom for your concern.  I am confident he will graduate with his division next Thursday, even if he does BS with another division.  I really appreciate your understanding.  N4M rules!!!

Hi all, just wondering if you have heard from your SRs that they are not getting their mail in order that they were written.  My son said that since Osama they have really heightened security for the mail.  And also, if we continure writing how soon will the mail be forwarded to their new address?
