This is the final test for your SRs. It is an overnight 12 hr drill that tests them on all they have learned and may encounter when deployed on a ship. It takes place on the Disney-created USS…Continue

Anybody have a daughter in division 182? I was hearing from her regularly but haven't heard anything since Mother's Day. Silence is so hard! She mentioned in her call that there were lots of people…Continue

I appreciate anyone's wisdom about the Navy. Right when you think you're getting the hang of everything (boot camp) they're out and on to something new ("A" school). The advice she gave was great.
janh: Looks like you and I are in it for the long haul. We have quite a way ahead of us. Is your son going to be SECF or is he another rank? From what I understand, once my son finishes boot camp he has 4 schools ahead of him. I know we talked about this before but just can't remember what you told me your son would be doing.
I got my blue candle yesterday! Starting to feel like it's actually going to get here! In 3 hours we will be down to single digits!!!!!!! YAY! I thought it would NEVER get here! I definitely have to make my travel plans today. I waited to be sure all would be well at BC and now it seems that the floods are going to possibly mess me up considerably. To top it all off I just found out this weekend that the small down in Louisiana where my parents live is expected to flood right before I leave to go to Illinois. I can't miss seeing my son graduate but at the same time I worry about my parents who I know will NOT evacuate. Looks like a week for some heavy duty prayers!
Have a great day ladies!!!!! 9 DAYS TO GO!!!!!!
hi janh and proud navy mom... i'm glad my daughter was able to help... she has guide d me many times ,, since she is a navy wife she has a little more understanding of the process... by the way i live in florida.. and my daughter lives in california
Julie: Great video! I can't imagine how utterly exhausted the SRs must be after Battle Stations but at the same time probably a little giddy that it's over. Thanks for the post.
janh: I didn't mean to make you cry! I thought it was a very sweet prayer which is why I posted it. It's something we can pray when our boys/girls are out to sea on a mission.
I really enjoyed this video from bootcamp.navy.mil. Hope you do too! It's called Faces of Bootcamp.
I keep remembering what it was like when my daughter left MEPS to fly to GL. They took the recruits to the airport at noon and didn't fly out until 5:30 PM. We didn't get her call that she "arrived" until 11:40 PM and then she wrote in her first letter she was up for 36 hours that first day.
I'm am glad they will have a weekend to get to know their new classmates and chill a bit before starting their classes on Tuesday and I'm confident the Navy will see that they are taken care of whenever they move to a new duty station. My SR will be clear across the country from us so it won't be as easy to visit. Something tells me I'll just have to get used to the "short visit" Navy way. I'm going to try to stay in the moment, enjoy PIR and the time we get to spend with our daughter. I think once we have the opportunity to communicate more often, we'll feel more connected.
