OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by Sonia 02/928 on May 14, 2011 at 11:34pm: keep in mind that even though his only going to spend graduation with you ..when he gets to A school he will have the rest of his days off ... its a holiday i dont know how its done but my son in law is in the navy that what he stated... is he going to a place where you can meet him?

I wish so badly that we had more than Thursday with my SR but he's one that is supposed to fly out the next day. Some people already know their travel plans but, knowing him, he won't ask so we'll be in the dark until we see him at PIR. I've already planned on no sleep that night so we can go to the airport the next morning. I hope & pray that he has a later flight and that we get to spend some more time with him on Friday. Fingers crossed xxxx!

Comment by D for Megan on May 14, 2011 at 6:31pm: Well, I was a rail guard during the PIR, which means I was up in the bleachers, making sure excited parents didn't get too close to the edge. So, during the actual ceremony that's mostly what was on my mind. After it was over, definitely was looking for some relaxation. I think we spent a lot of the weekend walking around the mall and seeing movies.

Comment by PNM #2 (Proud NaVy Mom-2nd SR) on May 14, 2011 at 1:10pm: D for Megan: Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure. As I mentioned in my last post; I don't care how I see him as long as I do. I'm sure it would mean more to him to be able to march in but he'll get to see us before everyone else marches in. Since you've been in this situation before how did you feel during your PIR? Were you thinking about liberty afterwards? I'm sure he will be happy just to go to the hotel, take a long hot shower, put on his civvies and sleep!!!
