Many famlies meet the sailors at the airport when they are leaving for A School.  They usually are bussed out there at around 2 a.m. on Sat morning...sometimes 5 a.m.  If at Ohare, you can meet your sailors at the USO Center, and then take them with you to the airlines counter to get a gate pass (have ID).  That way, you can wait at their gate with them until their plane actually pulls away.

If Midway, the USO is past Security.  So in that case, your sailor will need to meet you in front of security so he/she can go with you to the airlines counter to get your gate pass.

fireteamleaderwife:  It's nice to hear about someone who benefited from the Cup of Joe for a Joe.  It's really such a small and simple thing to do, that's why I mention it on my Facebook page every now and again to try and spread the word.  At Christmas I just put in my debit card info and wrote 5 notes to 5 anonymous military members.  I was so excited to hear back from them one by one!!!!!  I know it wasn't much work on my part but it really made me feel good to know that I provided someone in our armed forces with 10-15 minutes of home in Afghanistan or Iraq.  It's such a worthwhile cause that I hope we can get more and more people interested.  It's something I plan on doing on a regular basis.  Glad to know that your husband has been a recipient in the past and that he enjoys it so much!

My son called yesterday, told me that he will be a Grad and Go,, =0(   but that we could see him off when he leaves from the airport.  Does anyone know how that works?  Im pretty sure we will fly into Midway, but I am thinking he will fly out of o'hare.  Any ideas?  Thanks, all!  Tina

I plan to go to the airport to meet my SR and spend time with him their before he departs.

Has anyone done this? Can you walk me/us through it?

I will have two teenagers with me.

Thanks.

ProudNaVyMom- I know this is very late, ("back reading" to catch stuff I have missed!)...but thank you for posting the Cup Of Joe For A Joe .

Green Beans Coffees are located on many, many forward operating bases. I have pics of my DH and his buds enjoying their "cup o' joe" when they can! He has mentioned it quite often. I think it does exactly what the company claims...provides a little bit of home.

We have sent him so much "stuff" that, as his tour winds down and friends still want to send things, he has thanked them and said it is not necessary. BUT, if you really want to you can "get me a gift card from Green Beans Coffee"!

This IS a very easy to support the troops.
