A little piece of advice if you are driving onto the base that should save you some time. Check out the streets when you get to Great Lakes. Notice that the far right lanes going toward the base ends and traffic has to merge left. The morning of PIR most people will not know that and they will get in that right lane and wait and wait. Stay away from the far right lane and you will by-pass a lot of those waiting which will make your wait much shorter. When we were there last summer we had 13 div graduating. We left the Navy Lodge at 6:30am and drove to base, parked, checked in and was in the PIR hall by 7:30. That didn't seem bad at all to me. If my son does join and I make that trip again I will definitely drive to the base again. And I would stay at the Navy Lodge again. We thought it was great, especially for the price.

Julie I bet that is quite an honor to help design the division flag. You will want one of the Div T-shirts for sure :-)

Virginia that dress sounds very pretty. Be sure and post a pic when you get it made. I am sure we would all love to see it :-)

Thanks Virginia for posting that link. That's Jessica that's all over N4M.com!!!!! How exciting!!! She has helped me more than I can say; being the worry wart that I am she answered all of my unending questions at the beginning when I thought I would lose my mind. What a wonderful lady and what an awesome letter! You have to read that letter everyone. I'm sure it says exactly what we'll be saying someday soon...<3

I'm not a Navy momma (Navy wife!), but I thought of all ya'll here when I saw this: http://navylive.dodlive.mil/index.php/2011/05/07/letter-from-mom-to...

Don't be fooled: I'm still a sewing noob!  I'm learning project by project.  I'm just really picky about my clothes, and so learning to make them myself seems the way to go.  I want to make something kinda patriotic for PIR.  I tossing around a white dress with red and blue trim, and then embroidering a big anchor or ship or something near the hem on the front.  I have high hopes, but we'll see if I get it finished!

BUT retail therapy has gotten me through basic, too!  :)  I try to avoid it as much as possible because a little here and a little there can really add up to a lot pretty fast.

diannep:  No doubt!  I think I over compensated for not having a call today by buying more than I normally would :-(  At least now I have a few things to choose from to wear to PIR!!  Now that the spell is broken I can stay home next weekend and enjoy myself doing what I want to do and not forcing myself to go shopping!  LOL!!!  He & his brother always did think that I shopped too much.  Other people eat when they get depressed; I shop.

Virginia:  You have the right idea.  As much as I love clothes I wish I had learned to sew.  That way you can have new clothes for a fraction of what it costs in a store.  Your husband is a lucky man - someone who knows how to sew and be frugal at the same time!!!  Hope he appreciates it!!!

LOL!  Married to the fire team... a whole stable of Navy studs all to yourself, hrm...?

No call for me either (but I did get a letter!).  AND I started sewing (whenever he's called, I've been working on a new project).  I did make substantial project on a dress pattern that I think I'm going to use for PIR, though!

fireteam.....:  Hmmm....I think it would be kind of fun to be married to the whole fire team!  Exactly what would that mean????  :-)

ProudNavyMom:  I think the lack of a call this time when shopping means that your SR is saying:  ENOUGH SHOPPING--SPENDING $$$!  So next time, sit home, watch your fav movie and eat chocolate....I bet your SR will call THEN!  :-)

Julie:  A "stick" is what they call the flagholders.  My son was to be one when there (they usually like the shorter guys in the front, so therefore many of them are flagholders), but his words to me were:  "...they didn't trust me.... " Yep, that would be my COMEDY CENTRAL son!

For the last 2 weekends I went shopping and my SR called while I was shopping.  Far be it for me to stop a short tradition.  Carried out my shopping routine today and no call.  No letter.  Guess my lucky charm has worn off already.  At least I got some awesome dresses today.  Doesn't make up for no call but it makes me feel a little better.
