At the time 9/11 happened, I was in 4th grade and my mother's brother, Uncle Sam lol, was still very active in the Navy, that was my first experience to feel the wonder of a Sailor. I got interviewed for the paper the next day at school, because I had an active military family member. In music class, when they would play "Proud to be an American", I couldn't sit in class, because I would have melt downs. Now, 10 years later, I am dating a Navy Soon-to-be Sailor. I am proud for what my uncle did and what my Sailor will do!

Where were you guys on Sept. 11th?  I was in my American Government class in my first semester of my senior year of high school.  It was so strange... my teacher was giving a lecture, and our current affairs teacher came in - told her to turn on the TV.  There it was.  It was so horrible and scary.

It is satisfying to see that he's lost.  And it's even more satisfying to know that it was NAVY that helped to get him.  !!!  I agree with all of you: the United States will always be a target... it makes me proud to know that your sons and daughters volunteer with that knowledge to defend our nation and Constitution.  So proud!!!

You got that right diannep.  Some of my friends on Facebook were put out that people were saying so many horrible things about bin Laden and cheering the fact that he was dead.  Under normal circumstances I am not a proponent of death or killing people; however, this man took MILLIONS of lives and made the mistake of taking thousands of American lives.  What is the life of one man again the millions he took?  A drop in the bucket.  I would have prefer he be taken alive so they could have made him suffer but dead was an acceptable alternative.  I so hope that everyone who was affected by 9/11 can feel some sort of closure due to this.  The lives of their friends and families can never be given back but the man who ordered it can also never order another person killed.  AMEN!

Cait:  There was a mom in an earlier PIR group.  Her brother was killed in 9/11.  Totally the opposite of your situation.  He was not scheduled to be there that day, but decided to go in and get some work done.  I'm sure both your story and his story are numerous amongst the victims...some spared and some taken.

Even though almost 10 yrs has passed, I still find it almost impossible to "wrap my brain" around this tragedy.

And, absolutely, ProudNavyMom.  It is FAR from over...we will unfortunately fight terrorism for some time.  How wonderful if the day comes for the entire world where terrorism is totally stamped out and not a concern anymore?  We can only pray that one day, it happens!  In the meantime, we STAND STRONG as a nation, supporting our military who put their lives at risk...and don't tolerate those who don't love this country, yet are in it.  LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT, I say!

Wow, although 09/11 was terrifying for everyone I can't possibly imagine what it was like for anyone living in New York, Pennsylvania or anyone working at the Pentagon.  I'm sure there were things seen that day that are forever burned into people's memories.  Yes, the main man is gone but I'm sure it's far from over.  That's why we have to hope and pray that our SRs are absorbing all of the good information they are being taught so that one day they will be ready when the need arises.  God Bless Everyone!

Well said Diannep, Cait it scares me too. I am glad your father made it and his meeting was changed. I was teaching in a high school class when it happened and we turned on the TV. I will never forget that day. It was very hard on the students and I wanted so badly to go to the elementary school and pick up my kids and take them home. My Sailor was also in the 4th grade and my youngest son was in 1st grade. It is hard to believe it has been that long that we have been fighting this war. God Bless our Sailors and watch over them and protect them wherever they are.

Cait:  Unfortunately, the USA will always be a target of terrorism because of the power we hold in our world.  We just need to pray for wisdom in those making decisions for our country/military and our Lord's protection for all in danger.  Beyond that, there just isn't much we can do but try to live a good and honorable life.

I am very scared though that this will cause a retaliation and cause more war. With all of our SR's just getting into the Navy im afraid they will be the ones fighting :(
