For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by OMG hes a Sailor (div180) on April 13, 2011 at 7:57pm: Our plan was to load up all the kids (4) and drive to Great Lakes (from NC) like 14 hrs! Well after alot of thinking and figuring It is going to cost alot for gas, we will not be there long because B will go to the airport early Fri morning to fly to VA. Drive 14hr stay less than 48hrs and drive back 14hrs. With a 14, 4,6 and 8yr olds. This did not sound like a good time to me... So I think my hubby and I are going to fly. Now to break the news to the kids! Praying they will take it ok. But he will only be about 4hrs away from home when he is in Aschool so when he gets liberty in there we can go visit him... Now to fig out plan tickets. I have never bought plan tickets before... any advice?

Thank you Moms for all the info and tips!

There has been a couple of links to jokes on this site and I searched the net with "Navy Boot Camp jokes" got a few and some military in general. Some had other kinds of jokes too and cartoons. I copy and pasted onto the back pages of my letter. Hope the color doesn't attract attention! He'll need to go somewhere and hide when he reads the jokes! I know they can get in trouble for talking (let alone laughing) in the galley but not sure about elsewhere!

Found some really funny cards at Wal-Mart. My youngest kept looking at the musical ones! They have these new ones (to me anyways) where when you close it it pauses for a second and then continues to play! That is just too mean!

I said that the only way I am sending your bro a card is:

1) Clearance from the CO (Dad).

2) I buy an exact copy of it. YOUR RDC(mom) gets to man it while she drinks coffee, eats cookies and reads the paper. You will do burpees, push-ups, sit-ups, flutter kicks and/or dance until the battery runs out.

All above mentioned activities will be documented and sent to Ship11/Div180 so that the Div know that you had IT too.

Going to work on a questionnaire, the manilla envelope and personalized cards. I will try to post the links to the sites I found ( the clean ones! LOL).

*There was one cartoon of a man at the Pearly Gates...he was asked for the last four of his social! Had to send it!

We have heard great things about "Sarge" on here. Never had a bad comment about him from the families that have used his services, so you may want to make a note of his phone number that is in CrazyNavyMom's post below. He picks up from the airport/returns to the airport as well.

goMahvelous - For the sailors flying to Florida, it can be hard to say. Those of us in my old div from two years ago, 927, flew out on Tuesday after the four day weekend.

I figured stuff like that would happen. I also love the idea about the manilla envelope to send letters back in. I don't really care if he throws mine away; right now I just want him to be happy, healthy and enjoying the decision that he made to do this (well, one other thing; I want to KNOW these things through a phone call or letter! LOL) How did you get the manilla envelope up there? Did you send it in a smaller manilla envelope? I would hate for him to be called out because his letters are "too big"!!!!! And thanks about the warning of their division being the last to write letters and calls. Since your son was also in a 900 division I kind of know what to expect...don't like it, but understand it.
