Just had a nice long call with my SR!  BS is Monday.  Keep all of our SR's in your thoughts and prayers!  They cannot fall asleep at all for 36 hours so let's send them thoughts of strength and fortittude!

Since BS seems to be up in the air about a firm date I'm burning my candle tonight and tomorrow night and maybe even Tuesday night (unless I get lucky and get a phone call tomorrow afternoon saying "I'm a Sailor"!!!!  Many congrats to the sailors who have already passed this milestone and their families.

Ruth, thanks for taking the time to tell us.  We all wish we could have seen our recruits become sailors.  I heard from my son it was very emotional and he was so proud.

Yes, fireteamleaderwife:  You can post links on here with info like that.  All info is welcome!  I know when sending things to my stationed sailor now, I use his rate letters+SN before his name.

Yes, you can order division tshirts right after PIR.  But you can order NOW online if you want.  www.mwrgl.com

ENTER; then TRAVEL DISCOUNTS tab; then scroll down to MAIL ORDER FORM.  There are phone numbers on that if you have questions!

I was not familiar with the Recreational Center info.  Interesting!

joankf:  Ruth's son is one of the PT instructors at RTC and Ruth/family were at RTC Fri to see their son re-enlist. How neat that they were allowed to watch the capping ceremony after BattleStations. I bet that capping ceremony for the new sailors is so very emotional and special...and I know the re-enlistment ceremony for their son must have made them so proud!

Fireteamleaderwife- If he is an E-1, you can refer to him as seaman recruit "fireteam", then seaman apprentice, etc. When he gets to E-4, he will go by petty officer "fireteam", Sometimes he will be called petty officer third (second, etc) class "fireteam".  After he goes to school, you can refer to him as IT.  Many times you get to advance from going to school. So if he becomes an E-4 (petty officer third class) he will be IT3, then go up to IT2, etc.

I was wondering how I refer to my Sailor now. Sailor so-and-so sounds funny,LOL!

I think it is still "Seaman" as a generic term and then formally they add his actual rank (E-1) and designated rate (IT):

"Information System Technician Seaman Recruit ########"

I found some stuff on Wikipedia but wasn't sure if I can post the links.

Does anyone know if it's all right? I have read the guidelines...just want to make sure.

IDK- just interesting too me!

Just found this again on the MWR site. The bold and underline are mine.

Has anybody who has been through BC done this?

It does say they are closed Thursdays.

"RTC Recreation Center located in Bldg. 1326 (next to the NEX) on the Recruit Training Command provides recreational opportunities for newly graduated recruits and visiting families, the RTC Recreation Center is an introduction to MWR services that will be enjoyed at future duty stations. This Center is fully equipped with a projection screen television with surround-sound showing movies daily, a computer room with internet access, a large game room with pool tables, electronic video games, a commons area to socialize and Zapper's Snack Bar. If you are unable to purchase a custom Divisional T-Shirt, stop by the RTC Rec Center after graduation and throughout the weekend to purchase shirts or fill out order forms. Also, tickets available for sale include: Six Flags Great America (seasonal), Skydeck at Willis Tower, Chicago Trolley Tours and Metra Train.
Hours of Operation:
Mon-Wed: 5pm-8pm, Thurs: Closed, Fri: 10 am-9 pm, Sat: 8 am-9 pm, Sun & Holidays: 8 am-8 pm."
