Sammy, I don't have any advice on the boxes or anything because we moved ourselves, BUT just wanted to give you an early welcome to GL! I've been here almost a month and I really enjoy it! Always something to do somewhere to go...and most of the time everything we have found to do is free/cheap for military! Do you know where you are living yet? Are you looking at base housing or an apartment?

Hi! I am new here. I am planning to move to Great Lakes with my husband in the next month or so. Most of our stuff is in storage now in boxes.. as i was reading.. if i open the boxes and let them repack the items would this be best or do i need to take all of the items out of the box.. just thinking that would be a crazy mess since everything is already in storage!

Naywife, yes, that has been my experience. Open and reseal. You may get packers who will take it all out of your boxes and put it into their own (high grade) moving boxes.
Sort and clean, toss, sell, donate, organize, but DO NOT PACK your own things. Be sure everything you want to take with you is locked in your car kids and pets go to another home altogether on packout day). Having your purse packed out is a disaster.
We still have our moving boxes from out last Navy move. Flattened and stored in the garage rafters, worth several thousand dollars.

Kricia, can they get a full size moving truck into the storage place?  Whichever place would be easiest for pick up, plus whatever is simplest for you.

Also, the boxes must be unsealed, they won't take prepacked boxes. It voids the damage insurance.  They have to be able to look into the boxes and seal them themselves.

NavyWife- I was able to get a pass with a notarized letter from whoever's name the car is registered in (my mom) stating I was authorized to drive it. It needed to state the VIN and plate number. Also needed to show the proof of registration and insurance. I've only had to get a temporary base pass in Great Lakes and Panama City so I don't know if this will help but it would be worth asking. I called ahead and got all of this info.

Our vehicle is in poop shape!! haha - I would have liked to ditch it before we move when he gets stationed so we didn't have to drive it  - which is also not ideal for me either. I have a young daughter... driving from Minnesota to Florida sounds awful to me... and I seriously have no sense of direction!
