The car has to be in your name to get a base decal.

NavyWife, even though he is still in BC,  you should start looking at your home with a critical eye toward moving.  Do you have things you don't need or want?  Sell, donate or toss such things now.  Do you have a portable file system will all your important documents?  Is your vehicle in tip top shape?  Have you looked over the links for moving and know what steps to take?  Seriously, the more you do before crunch time, the more relaxed you will be when it comes down to the wire.

Don't stress, but do a little bit every day, even if it is just checking out stuff online.

The movers do have to do a repack, that's required for insurance purposes. They will repack it, get it on the truck, and deliver it when you are ready. Everything mus be at one address, they aren't supposed to do multiple location pick ups, again for insurance reasons.
It really can be easier to have them do it. get in there and get rid of anything you don't want or need, no reason to haul it all over the map.

Good morning.
I'm still new with all of this. I'm wondering if you can do a dity move and have the navy move you in the same year? My husband said the navy would pay to move us once does that include a dity move? Thanks for the help!

Deep storage would be in the US, he'd not have access to those things.

You can't do a DITY to an OCONUS location.  Besides, hiring your own movers for Hawaii?  No, really, you don't want to do that.  Tens of thousands of dollars, even a small pack out is horribly expensive.  Let the Navy handle it.

He should have a sponsor who can answer specific questions for that base and command.  Many of them do still live offbase with room mates and just maintain a clean, empty barracks room.  However, if he can't afford that out of pocket, or can't find a good roomie, he'd be stuck storing his stuff.  The Navy stored out stuff when we were in Hawaii, he can ask if "deep storage" is still an option for OCONUS locations.  They'll put his large items into storage until he moves again, or gets authorized to move offbase.  Ask, ask, ask the PPO.
