Hi there - We still have months to go until we will be moving to my husband's first assignment. He's in dive school now, so no orders as of yet. But I wanted to be prepared to tell my husband how we need to move his precious motorcycle! Just so you get the idea... we don't have kids yet, but this is his first born child ;)

I've tried to find past posts about moving motorcycles with no luck. We plan to just have the Navy move us. Does anyone know if they will ship a motorcycle with the rest of our stuff? Or are we responsible for getting it there? We don't have a truck or trailer to move it, so we would have to pay a company to move it for us. Thanks!

Excellent information!  So glad it has been updated to reflect multi-car families.

Hey ladies! We did a DITY move this weekend from Utah to Illinois and it went great. All of our stuff was just sitting packed up in storage, so all we had to do was fill the Uhaul and drive. After three long days of driving, our family is finally together again. Thanks for the wealth of information from this group.

As far as the car question... The moving office told us that they don't pay to ship cars stateside, but they will pay you gas, mileage, hotels, and food for each vehicle per licensed driver in your household. I hope that helps.

I'm reading conflicting information about vehicles. Will the military pay to move 2 cars on PCS moves or just 1? My husband and I have 2-3 rooms of stuff to move plus 2 cars.

Saw this on Navy Times:

Mileage reimbursement for travel related to a permanent military reassignment, now capped at 24 cents per mile, would increase to 51 cents per mile under new legislation introduced in Congress.

The Service Members Permanent Change of Station Relief Act, S 472, also would reimburse transportation of a second privately-owned vehicle for duty-station moves to or from Alaska, Hawaii and Guam.

The two changes would take effect Jan. 1, 2012, under the proposal.
