Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by JORDANSMUM on December 31, 2013 at 11:49am: Our son is on Ship 09 Div 045, I believe he is doing well. I didn't get to hear from him on Christmas, maybe tonight!? Keeping my fingers crossed! I didn't get to his swearing in process, he didn't tell me about it! If anyone else has a child in this group let me know, would love to be able to keep up with his progress! I know he will graduate on the 3rd of January and I will just continue to write him and hope he finds himself in the Navy and comes back to his family!

Remember that PIR is not the end of your Sailor's journey, but just the beginning! There are groups here for A school, C school, bases, ships, states, regional, international, twins/multiples, and the Christian Chat that I am a part of. Lots to keep track of on your Sailor's Navy journey!!

If so, he should still have a chance this week....usually they have to pass by Wed....hoping that he has that last chance. If not, then he should get more chances in the weeks to come to pass. He could still become a sailor then....just would not get a PIR. Please stay in touch on here and let all know what happens with him. Prayers for him (and you!)!

Comment by jmom on December 30, 2013 at 8:43pm: Thanks to each of you for your comforting words and prayers. I will keep each of you posted as I get additional information from him. He says he won't be allowed to call anymore until he's passed the swimming, which he won't be able to try again until next week and then do Battle Stations. He won't graduate, he'll be sent directly to 'A' school; I don't know if his schooling will change or not. Yes, God's plan is not always our plans and there is a purpose. We should always excel in everything we do, always and not do just enough and say if we don't get it this time, that we'll get it next time, because our next time may not be God's timing.
