~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello all,
We arrived late last night back from graduation weekend. I am still in awe over the whole celebration. I am so proud of all the "Sailors". The ceremony was nothing short of amazing and I could barely hold back the tears of joy. I enjoyed spending the weekend with my son who is now across the street at A School and loving it. I miss him all over again but it's great that he now has his cell phone for us to communicate. The Navy has transformed my son into a fine young man! I also greatly appreciate this N4M website because if it had not existed I'm not sure I would'nt have been nearly as informed. My sons photo sits proudly on my desk today. I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as much as I did :)
*enjoy some of this down time....
Ha....they usually love Pensacola for the reason you mentioned! The beach is right there! I know my friend who was in Pensacola actually took on some watches for his buddies....ahem....for a "small fee!" Or....so he said! Because he was getting pretty bored waiting to class up and wanted to stay busy.
Glad he arrived safely! He probably will enjoy some of these "down time" before starting classes.
And, yes! The restored contact with your new sailors is great, right? Just remember that they are not supposed to have their phones during class time....they can get in big trouble for this. So tell your sailor that you will only text or call in the late afternoon or evening! :-)
Buffetblvd: Yes, it is pretty normal to be on "hold" when arriving at the A School bases. But they normally "hold" them there, and not at RTC since they must clear out RTC to get ready for more SRs. Just wondering if any in this group were "held" at RTC rather than A School. Thanks!
On the rudeness of the USO personnel...oh my! We have never heard of that before. The USO is manned by volunteers but it sounds like they need some training! I can understand them not letting families in without the sailor with them, but couldn't they have checked to see if your sailor was inside? This is the first negative I have seen about the USO on this site and I have been on here since 2009. I sure hope it was an isolated situation. So sorry. Hope that you found your sailor at the airport eventually...even without the USO's help!
