OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good afternoon, everyone!

I've been spending well needed time with the family this last week.  My youngest daughter is home from college for a few weeks (she attends Univ. of NM and we live in MD) so we have been shopping, visiting relatives and just catching up.   We also had our oldest daughter and our grandchildren here for a couple of days.  Next week my middle daughter will be in town from CO.  :)

My sailor (our youngest of our 5) spent his Christmas time in Dubai!  He is on the only aircraft carrier which is currently deployed.  He said that he has a blast, while there.  So far, since his deployment began in August, he has had port calls in  Malaysia, Thailand and Dubai (United Arab Emirates).  He has ridden two elephants and a camel, snorkeled in Thailand and been on a sunrise safari.  He said that the coolest thing was that he got to hold a falcon.  Although I missed him terribly, as this is his first Christmas away from home, I am so happy that his port calls have been very welcomed and a lot of fun for them.  These are just some of the cool things that your soon-to-be sailors will be doing once their boot camp and training are over.  Of course they obviously work very hard while on deployment, but it's so good to know that they are able to have some time to relax, enjoy themselves and make some once in a lifetime memories as well.    :)

You are a day ahead of me...I teach middle school, and I'm going to have enough trouble getting the 10th/11th and 14th off (getting in REALLY late on the 13th) fortunately my principal is former Navy, so he gets it...will you be at Sarge's meet&greet?

Flutterfly- Where are you driving in from? I have to fly in, it would be a 17 hour drive and this Florida Girl has no idea how to drive in the snow and ice! Never even seen snow! I hope you can make it to the Meet and Greet, if not we will all see you at Graduation!!

Yeah, I figured it out. Just got my coin ordered too.
Comment by diannep on December 28, 2012 at 11:33am

lhawkins:  To order the ribbons, go to Lala's page.  Her photo icon is red with the blue ribbons on it.  So find her in the posts here or in the MEMBERS box (hit VIEW ALL) above and to the right of this.  They are beautiful.  You can message her from her page.

Craig is the one with the info on the challenge coins, but I believe you order them on ebay.

Comment by KathyShip11/Div058 on December 28, 2012 at 11:27am
Ok. I really wanted to order the coin. I don't use e-bay and I don't use PayPal. Is there any other way to order one without using these?
