OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ryans mom - Make sure he has a working phone card so that he can call you. Let heim know what time you expect to arrive. Then he can come out and meet you and get you a Gate pass to go through security.

The Sailors usually go to the USO to wait for their flights if they have a longer wait.

Here is info on the USO's.

The USO at O'Hare is located OUTSIDE of the secured area in Terminal 2 above the Delta Airlines Ticket counter - so anyone can access it.

The USO at Midway Airport is located INSIDE of the secured area in Concourse C - you must have a boarding pass or courtesy pass to get beyond TSA security area.

O'hare is 24/7 and Midway is 9 AM- 9PM (24 hours as military need arises):

USO O'Hare

USO Midway

(I just found out that Milwaukee has a USO now...but have to research it. We have not seen anyone flying out through there before but I will add the info just incase for the future.)

I have a question how can I see my sailor in morning at airport if he passes thru security? Any ideas please he gets there at 1 but doesn't leave til 9!

Zach's-wife - Unfortunatley there is no way of knowing which airport that the new Sailors will fly out of until they have their orders and tickets in hand.

The new Sailors are bussed very early in the AM (usually) to their airports. Then they could leave in a couple of hours to up until very late in the day. They all get bussed at the same time to the airports and then have to check in and wait for their flights. My son left within five hours after arriving to the airport(arrived at 1 AM and the flight was close to 6 AM)...I have seen reports of some leaving as late as 10 PM! It's just flight availibility.

The new Sailors do not usually get their flight info until after they pass BST and most do not get to call again after the "I'm a Sailor" call.

You could switch to a different Hotel that night (if you are staying near RTC for PIR) once you fnd out which airport.

What I did was I went to the Airport at 1 AM when they arrived. They have to check in and get settled before they can spend whatever free time they have before their flight leaves...so while a drive from GL you do have some "time " to get there.

If someone tells you that it is "definitely" O'Hare or Midway...there is no defintiely...but they do have a 50/50 chance of being correct!

I think another mom will be along with more suggestions too :-) Hope we can get you sqaured away with it!

Remember....no photos can be taken outside on the base.  Only inside the buildings so remember that!  You are being "watched!'  :-)

Comment by diannep on January 11, 2013 at 9:28am

Soooo....today's THE DAY!  You are in the PIR Hall by now, right?  I hope so!  And I hope others are well on their way!  This is a small PIR group so there shouldn't be trouble with finding seats, but the "good seats" go quickly.  Not that any are bad seats, but some are pretty specific on where they like to sit.

Enjoy this very special day.  Have your Kleenex ready when that BIG DOOR OPENS revealing your new SAILORS!  It is quite a moment!

Congrats!
