~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

NavyMom: Go on the NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS theory until that letter comes!
:-)
momto4: Just a note on the "closed FB group." Many do that, yes. And they stay on this group too. Remember, we N4Moms veterans will be posting lots of info for you here. So we ask that you all for sure stay here as well.
Even though your group is "closed," you really don't know who you are letting into it. It is a known fact that some of the RDCs/their friends, etc...get on the sites...both this one and Facebook. Any of them can be allowed to "join" your group as someone who has an SR with yours. Soooo....if you do start a group like that, please be careful what you post there. Things that are not allowed on here, like posting of BattleStations dates, should not be posted on FB either. Remember, your last names are disclosed on FB...and if it is the same as your SRs, it can get your SR in trouble when you post something not allowed (yes, the SRs do lots of IT for crazy things!). Don't want to scare anyone off with that because I can tell you, it is usually not a problem at all. But some ladies in the past have posted their SR's entire letters on here or in FB....including all comments made about their "superiors"....not a good thing!
So please be mindful of that!
Just a question - is there anyway to create a closed FB group for our PIR date? Is that allowed?
Yay Dawn what ship and div is he in?? Im patiently waiting for my husband to send some
Good Morning All! Remember if you would like to see if loved ones of your SR's friends are on this site, you can use initials and hometowns posted on here to find them. No names please...last names are forbidden to be posted, and first names of the SRs are not recommended. Best to stick to initials and hometowns.
If you find each other, friend request and then you can private message personal info.
Good Morning! Hoping for some letters in those mailboxes today!
Aww lhawkins, I'm sure it is coming soon. I can understand feeling a little sad though. I guess they were only allowed to send one letter at a time. My son does not have a girlfriend, or atleast not one he felt especially strong about.
Hi All, I have yet to receive a letter, or a call....my son's girlfriend received a letter today, I am glad about that but really need to hear from him...just a little sad...oh well, may be tomorrow!
Yeah got a letter today! :) It was short but I was still glad to hear from him. He said he was given glasses and has made friends from all over the USA and one from Africa. I am glad to hear he is doing well. :) He didn't mention any friends by name but he did say from the Bronx and San Diego if any one here has a SR in Ship 14 DIV 056 from those places.
