Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I'm new to the group. My son is Ship 11 Div 058.
Your welcome diannep, time to pay if forward, after all we are all Navy Family.
karens is a N4Moms veteran so has lots of info....thanks for posting on here, karens!
lhawkins: They can buy the phone cars in the NEX with the "supplies" card issued to them, but of course can't just go there when they want. So it helps if you can send them phone cards (make sure they are activated!). The pay phones "eat up" alot of the minutes on the cards, so get them one with at least 250 minutes on it, maybe more.
Good Morning All!
lhawkins Yes, they need phone cards in order to make calls when they are permitted. Letters start arriving about three weeks into boot camp. The first phone call is usually around week three, don't be upset if the first phone call and letter sound sad, it is a big transition for them and takes awhile for them to adjust. Just keep telling them to stay strong and focused and they will be fine. For us Moms it is just as hard a transition from being full time caregiver to Navy Mom, but with the help of all here, we do fine too. God Bless and hang in there.
Hi All, I am trying to follow the conversations...today is hard for me, it is my son's 19th birthday. I also have a question...do I need to send him a phone card so he can make phone calls? I am confused...anyone know? I got the PIR letter and box last week but no phone calls except the "i am here" call. I have not gotten any letters either but I did read on here that they don't get mail or send for the first two weeks.....
