My daughter is 19, she just graduated high school last May. Ship 11 Div 068....
missy123- My husband graduated college as well first and then worked as an EMT for a while and decided the Navy was where he wanted to be. So he is 25. So your son won't be the oldest, but we were worried about the same thing! He is also in div 911 though
UPDATE from RTC:
TG 11 - 10 Divisions (067-074, 804 and 911) Graduate Friday, January 23, 2014. Each recruit will be permitted 4 guests.
Awesome!! Just found this group! Received my son's letter on Monday! Loved seeing that familiar handwriting - well, it was actually much more legible than usual, lol! He's on Ship 4, Division 804. I've connected with two other mom's from that Division... any others? I'm actually really curious about ages. My son wanted to graduate from college first, then he was on delayed enlistment, so he's already 23. Is he going to be the "old" guy there? (Surely not, lol!!) Nice meeting all of you!
That first trip to the NEX, they are directed on what to buy and what aisles they are allowed to go into.
It's like a small store. Think a one room Wal-Mart. So there are snacks and candy etc. Not allowed to go into those aisles.
So I am not sure if they are allowed to buy Phone cards on that trip. I would assume that it is up to the RDC. I am also sure they are given so much time to get there stuff done as well.
They also are not allowed to "just go to the NEX", it is scheduled and they go as a Division.
When they go to make that first call they may not be given time to run over and buy a card. Everything is timed in BC. Thankfully, many Recruits share their phone cards with other Recruits :-)
So even if folks tell you they can buy one...it's better to just send it.
Thanks everyone so much for the info!!! I am going into town to buy a card now!!!
Hi everyone! Looking to book my airlines and hotel soon! From what i have read I think i will fly into Milwaukee. This may be a dumb question but is the airport everyone has been flying into the General Mitchel International Airport?? Cannot wait to see the recruits! Especially div 911:-D
Last I heard the Recruits are issued a Calling card as part of the contents of their Ditty Bag...so they can make that first call home. I am sure that it is only good for one use though. So, if you haven't sent one, please do so.
You can also go to CallsforRecruits.com and get some there. They are not actual cards but you will get code numbers for them. I think it's 8 "cards"? These are each only good for one use. They are about twenty minutes long after they deduct the activation time. I think all phone cards take minutes off each time you use them. I know the ATT one I bought took about 30 minutes from it. It was a large card though...like 400 minutes.
As for a phone card if you need to get one, get the kind that already has a set number of minutes already paid for, like 300 minutes?
