OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Will there be family/friends at PIR for your SR?
Comment by A's_momma_Erin on January 12, 2014 at 8:03am
Each is a bit different. Where is yours going again? There are days to "learn the ropes" though.
Comment by Jamie on January 12, 2014 at 7:58am
Btw, does anyone know if they start schooling right when they arrive or if they wait a few days. And if they wait, will they have liberty? If my sr gets there on saturday, will he have the weekend for himself? Anyone know the process between arriving to a-school and when they actually start? Sorry for all the questions haha. It's 4 am where I'm at. You can obviously tell how anxious I am

Thanks diannep.. i just really want to be able to see/ be with my sailor as soon as I can, especially during these difficult times. Nothing can suffice his comfort. I've been on so many sites reading about visiting someone during a school and it has been a bit discouraging, things just seem so complicated and uncertain. I really don’t know if I can wait another month to see him. But you've shined a little light my way, so thanks for that. I'm tossing and turning just thinking about not being there for graduation. Hopefully a visit during a school will make up for it. I know he'll understand. Hopefully we can spend a good amount of time together (and soon!). At least I know heaven's new angel is watching over him :)

Thank you. I don't want them to think he can't handle it, I just can't understand why he isn't getting our mail. He is actually an MA. His friend is the Nuke. Thanks so much.

Oh and from what I have seen in the letters. There are a lot of Nukes in that division. Very happy they will have their fellow boot camp friends to go on to next phase.

Bubweeba... my son is also in that division.. I saw your previous post earlier this week and wrote my son..I asked him to tell me about him and told him his momma is worried. .. my son is 1st class SR so he has some type of leadership role. He has many motivational talks with others and encourages other when he sees trouble... I will write him again... stand fast and hold strong momma .. we are all almost there.

Bubweena, I got mine at Walmart and the scent is Peaceful Waters.  I love the imagery of the Navy and Peaceful Waters together.  As for finding others in Ship 13, Div 070, you can also post comments in the discussion above for that specific ship.  There are other parents on that page who will have info for you.

Duh, I just figured out that ya'll must have blue candles at home. I have seen some folks with blue candles as their picture. I am so worried about my SR. He still isn't receiving our mail. His letters are heart breaking. I just don't know what to do. We just keep writing. I am about to suffer a huge anxiety attack. Are there any moms out there that have an SR on Ship 13, Div 070, Marvin Shields. My son has become good friends with a SR with a last name beginning with a D. I believe he a Nuke SR. Please contact me. Are other SR's on this ship getting mail.
