For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Woodchuck mom, I would wait until after PIR. She could be in the ICUS for an extended period. I regret telling my SR that her Grandfather is in the hospital but I did tell her he would be out in a week. We almost lost him about 2 1/2 years ago and she's always been close to him. I am regretting.

Woodchuck mom: I agree with Erin....if at all possible, try and wait until after PIR. Since he is not especially close to this aunt, seems like the info would be ok to wait....unless you feel he could hear about it through a letter/call from someone else....in that case, you may want to tell him if she passes away.
Only you will know what is best for your SR, but it is true that they need to maintain their focus if possible.

A's momma Erin: Well, the family members/friends cannot go "with" the new sailors to the airports. We have heard in other groups about lists being provided by the sailors of those meeting them at the airports, which is what is allowed. It is possible that this list is to facilitate getting gate passes for family members if the sailor is not with you there. Not sure.
Yes, the ID your 11 and 13 yr olds are bringing should suffice. I would not send names to your sailor of those meeting at the airport...unless he asks for it specifically because he was told too. No need to ruin the surprise! With proper ID, your group should be able to get the airline gate passes.

Wait until after PIR. They are dealing with their own stressors right now. That is what I suggest and have heard similar advice from others...

To tell or not to tell? My SR's aunt is unresponsive in ICU. Before he shipped off for boot camp, we went on a farewell tour to visit family members who might not be around when he eventually gets leave. She is one we visited. Although this is not a suprise and my SR was not close to this aunt, do I tell him if the aunt does not make it?

Any Ship 02 Div 911 moms want to exchange names of our SR's? I would like to send a list of names in my next letter to see if mine may know yours. I would do this through a private message, but I don't want to miss anyone. Just send me a message if you want to be a part of this...
