OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

BattleStations for this PIR group will start around 1/15 or 1/16, none on Fri or Sat nights, and then continue during PIR week.  So about 3 more weeks before they start.  Hope all had a wonderful Christmas!

No call today for me. My SR said as much when he called on Saturday, but I was hoping. Had a nice gathering at the in laws, but something just wasn't the same. Good news though! My niece WILL come with us to PIR to watch our youngest during the ceremony. Wasn't sure what to do with the "extra" sibling and I got a gift from God!!! Peace to all of us who are missing our SR's and blessings too!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Comment by jamieRN Div. 073 PIR 1/24 on December 25, 2013 at 9:31pm

Darn!!!   i understand .... but selfishly , darn!!!  LOL..... I really anticipated a call today.... I am so looking forward to a month from yesterday so i can get my arms around that guy.  I am so proud of him but miss him so much.  I am thankful , they all have each other and my son said in his letter ( he is in division 073 btw)  that "i love those guys" talking about his division which warms my heart .  I hope  the base gave them a good meal. I pray that they will all stay up and encouraged even without a christmas phone  call.  praying for blessings to each of you sweet mamas missing your babies( feeling your pain:/  )   and praying for blessings for our sailors in training .  May they know the joy and blessing in the meaning of christmas . wishing each of them a hug around their neck . I plan on squeezing the pudding out of my boy .  I love you gals and am so thankful for each and every one of you !!!

JamiRN our PIR dates did not get chosen. My daughter said they have not been in training long enough. I received a call last Thursday and she said to keep the phone close by on Christmas. A'smomma_Erin said when her SR called, last week he said not to expect a call until after Battle stations. I am thinking Battle Stations are not for another 2 weeks. Her son and my daughter are both on Ship 2 Div 911...so go figure. We can still hope and pray

I received a phone call on Sunday and he said he thought it would be awhile before he could call again! I am not sure why?? Bud today has been much harder than I never imagined!

Come to think of it, we got a call on Monday as well and she said that it was probably her Christmas call. I just operate under the assumption that anything is possible!

Comment by Teri on December 25, 2013 at 6:23pm
I also got a call on Monday and he said it was his Christmas call.
