While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Amtrak is cheaper than Southwest from where we live. I still haven't checked out the cost of driving though.

ust remember that the mail is held from your SRs for about the first 2 weeks of bootcamp, until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer for their division is trained. They will then receive the held mail, be allowed to write their first letter (their letters are always mailed out on Mondays)...and then they receive their mail M-F after that.
I agree about booking hotels now...no penalty for cancelling as long as it is done usually by the day before or day of arrival. Remember that Southwest Airlines into Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL) or Milwaukee (45 min to GL) has no change fee...and 2 bags check for free. Worth looking into! They run specials too so be sure to check that out:

Hi, My SR is also ship 03 div 072. I have already made reservations for a hotel. They are going fast. I haven't made any plane ticket purchases yet. For just a heads up I would at least make hotel reservations you can always change them with out any extra charges like plane tickets. Glad to see more moms from our SR Division!!

I wrote my first letter to Monday and put it in the mail on Tuesday. I will write another letter on Thursday and get it in the mail on Friday. I will try not to overwhelm her with letters but I do want to encourage her while she is away.

Hello everyone, I received my box on Saturday and my letter on Monday. My daughter is in Ship 03 Div 072 and set to graduate on 24 Jan 2014.
Has anyone made reservations yet for PIR? and if so can you pass on any tips?
