Welcome to the Division Discussion for divisions 071 and 072.
These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.
Get to know each other, your SRs are!
Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.
Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.
Hang in there!!!

No letter today but my sons little buddy Mason (his nephew) told me Papa I wrote Uncle Corey a letter and handed it to me. He said why are you crying I took my time writing good (he is 6) and I told him it was friggen awesome and I'm crying because I am lucky to have the two of them in my life. He shrugged his shoulders and told me he was going to play with his friend. I am truly lucky.
Good Morning Everyone, my son is div 071. Anybody know if they leave right for A school after PIR? I haven't made my reservations yet either, I'm not sure if I should leave on Sat or Sun? Anybody else SR going to Texas after graduation? Maybe with the gas going down the airline tixs will too, wishful thinking I know. I hope today is the day to receive my letter. I sure hope by the time we all go to PIR there won't be any storms like there getting now. I sure do feel for the parents going at this time. Have a great day everyone.
Good morning Cincin,
My son was also told that his A school would be in Texas, but I have since found out that they closed in 2010. He apparently will be going to California. I am trying to get the specifics of WHEN, though. I have heard (from Lemonelephant) that he might start his training at GL in a self-paced program for 6-12 weeks and then move on the CA. His rate is MN (mineman). How about your son?
Hi everyone,
We got a letter yesterday! WOOHOO! It was a nice long one, which surprised me. Torie is not a letter writer, but without his phone or computer, I guess that's his only option now:) I had sent him a letter with a few questions to answer and send back. He answered those AND wrote a 2 page letter!
We are going to Sarge's Meet and Greet in Waukegan. Who else is going to that one?
Ship 12 Division 072
I got my letter this morning and he says they get 30 minutes to write it beginning last sunday. He told me I was his hero and thanked me for all that I taught him it was so emotional. He asked me to please keep writing it is really important to him. I have been including copies of football standings and basketball standings but he said they take it out, he can't have it unless I write it. He said they have really came together as a Division and he is really proud of the rest of the men and women in his group because they have made him much stronger emotionally, mentally and physically. He did say he wished he could make a phone call but didn't allude to when that would happen. He also said he passed his PFA and first written test but I am so much grateful for all of you on here also, you have made me stronger as my son moves on with his life and career.
Does this mean we shouldn't send clippings? I've been taping a comic or two to the back of my letter. That would be sad if they can't have clippings after all other postings have said that you could send it.
I was sending my son copies of NFL standings printed off my computer and his first letter said if I don't write it or its not a greeting card not to send anymore. Probably depends on the RDC.
My letter this week was a very positive one. He said that he really enjoyed the other recruits and stays up late at night talking with his bunkmates... He also says that the food is awesome. Sounds like he is settling in and actually enjoying boot camp. Imagine that..
I really thought Christmas was going to be just awful without him as well. While I miss my son terribly, I can look at the tree and not cry now. Tonight I took the dog out for a ride with Christmas carols blasting in the car looking for pretty Christmas lights. The dog loved it, but I am sure that's a pretty crazy thing to do.....Kathy
That letter sure did alot for us I will say but I am willing to bet we get a XMAS eve or XMAS day phone call. It would make since and the timing is about ripe. Keep those phones charged and ready. I seen your post about A school and decided I'm getting Corey an Ipad for graduation/christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I sent a home made XMAS card to my son and all of ship 12 division 72, see below.
OK - So here's a couple of questions.....
1. A School - what are they allowed to have at A School? With our son not being home for Christmas, we were thinking about buying him something like a Tablet or iPad for use in A School. Do they have access to WiFi etc?? What is something that would be a good belated Christmas / graduation gift that would be a useful thing in A School?
2. Thinking ahead to PIR - was is the usual dress attire for those of us attending? I have seen the videos that show the recruits and not the audience. It looks cold / garage like doors open....
Ideas? Kathy
