~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

After hearing the news this morning that there will be more major cuts in the military soon, I'm thankful that all of you have almost-sailors!  It will be harder for others to get in then....and I would imagine that there will be many more in the future being cut from Bootcamp.  So sad to hear this....heard that our military will be smaller than it has been since before WW 2.  That seems very sad to me....but so proud that your almost-sailors are part of our military!

Good Morning!

LizzieHusband:  My older son works at our Speedway down here and loves it.  He and his crew head up to Daytona 2 weeks before the big race every year and work their tails off.  I know today must have been very frustrating for them with the huge rain delay!  But so glad that they finally finished...and I know he is celebrating because Earnhardt Jr is "his guy!"   Hope you had a good time!

Just remember on those who may not pass their PFAs.  They will get more tries in the next few days.  So don't give up hope if you get that call!  Lots of prayers that they pass and can be at their PIR because once they miss their own PIR, they don't get another PIR...they just keep trying in the FIT DIV, pass and do BattleStations, heading straight to A School.  Unless they don't pass at all...then they are discharged  :-(

Hoping that those with shin splints heal...those are so very painful, but very common in Bootcamp.  Many are delayed with them, but most end up finishing Bootcamp.  Prayers, Laurajo, that she can get through tomorrow!

Laueajo, I will keep you and your SR in my prayers! I am concerned about my SR having that same issue. She was saying it looked good until her last letter where she said shin splints had gotten really bad

Congrats! So you heard from your wife after the PFA? If it's good news I hope to hear from my daughter, but I figured we wouldn't hear anything until the "I'm a sailor" call.
Comment by Laurajo on February 23, 2014 at 11:00pm
Thanks kkjetz! My daughter is 091 but she failed her run by less than 30 seconds. She has been dealing with horrible shin splints. Tomorrow will be her last chance or she goes to FIT and misses PIR. :-(

Best wishes and good luck to all recruits taking their final PFAs tomorrow! May God be right there with you. I know all the moms will be. ;-)

Does anyone know how Captain's Cup went yesterday?

kkjetz,

My thoughts on tipping is 10% - 15% for a taxi/shuttle based on the service provided and 15% - 20% for the restaurant server. If you come in with a large party (6 or more), be sure to check your bill for a "service charge" or "gratuity" already added to the total.  Here's a TripAdvisor article which confirms these amounts and has more advice on tipping hotel housekeeping staff -- we leave $3.00 a day for the maid and if someone delivers more towels, a refrigerator, or sets up a crib for you after you call the front desk, about $2.00 - $3.00.
