~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Got a letter from my son today. He told me that all is going well with his div Ship 13 Div 102. They just waiting to pass their final PFT and Battle Stations. He said he can't wait to walk down the street in his dress blues. He also wrote to tell me not send anymore letters cause the letters will not get there before he graduates. I sent him three letters a day since the first day he left. I made a promise that I would make sure he had a letter to open every mail call. He told me how much he appreciated that. He says he may get a call at the end of this week but, if not he will see me on 3/7/14. He ended the letter with some good news. He was promoted to E-2 . Im soooooo proud of him:) ONE MORE WEEK
The determination of VA benefits (GI Bill, etc) is determined by the length of their active service, which like CatMom said, is when they report to their first duty station. If they get out a little early with an honorable discharge, they may not receive the whole GI Bill....it is determined by length of active duty.
CatMom: The new updates of this site have arrived, just as they said: Thursday was the big REVEAL! So everyone should be seeing the new format here.
CatMom509 - it looks different :)
By the way, does the N4M page look different as far as the way everything is arranged for you all? It changed on me!
doremi,
If you asking about when does their time in the Navy start to be considered as part of their time in, it starts the first day they show up at Boot Camp. Active duty in their rating (job), IT, AI, AO, CT, etc... starts when they report for their first duty station after completing their A and/or C schooling.
Greetings Everyone!
"There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven."
Ecclesiastes 3:1
When does a recruit's active duty start? Is it when they first get to boot camp or when they first get their actual assignment for school?
