~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Awwww, ellen.....what a wonderful story! I had goosebumps reading it! I know whenever your son feels he is struggling, etc, he will feel his grandpa's presence which I know will really help him! Sugrnspicy: I feel the same for your son!
Good Morning All !
ellen0502,
That is such a touching memory for you to share!!
Sugrnspicy, My dad was a mustang officer in the Navy at the start of the Korean and Vietnam (not our involvement) wars began, and told us many stories. My son had talked to him a lot about the Navy, but sadly my dad passed away before my son went to BC. We all told my son his gpa would be proud very proud of him.
The first letter my son sent me he wrote that he had déjà vu when he arrived. Everywhere he went he felt like he had been there, he even found he knew where buildings and rooms were even if he hadn't been there before. He failed his swimming test, no fat to float, and started receiving "extra" pool time.
Two weeks before PIR he was trying again to pass and again failed, and was told tomorrow would be his last chance before there would be no time left for much additional help. The next day he looked at the pool when it was his time and said to himself, "I need a little help here grandpa", got in the pool and immediately passed the float. At the end of PIR right after "Liberty Call, Liberty Call", my son swears he felt my dads hand on his back and heard him say "I am proud of you buddy".
My sailor is now walking in the same footsteps my dad did, in San Diego and Sasebo, and he still gets that déjà vu sometimes.
Sorry for the long story, but there isn't a doubt in my mind that your sons grandpa is going to be standing right next to him the rest of his journey.
Blessings and prayers to your family.
I remember a song about a blind man that wanted to go to his grandson's football game and he passed away right before the game so he finally got to see his grandson play. It was a touching song and reminded me of your son's situation. Grandpa now has no pain and you get to see your SR before graduation. Focus on the positive and know that with time comes healing. You and your SR are still in my prayers.
Oh, thank you so much each and everyone. Gloria_93 (Ship 13, DIV. 102 I love how you put it, that his Grandpa will be with him during BS, yes he will. I got a letter from him, today, and it made me so happy. Obviously, he hadn't known of his grandfather's condition when he wrote it, and he was so upbeat. He sounded more like the son I know. He said the following is his favorite cadence (marching song) "Mama, Mama can't you see what the Navy's done to me? I used to drive a Chevrolet, now I'm marching everyday. Mama, Mama can't you see, what the Navy's done to me? I used to own a Cadillac, now my seabag's on my back. ...Hey. hey, heyyyyy.....Oh, Oh, Ohhhhh" LOL I just love it...want to reach out and hug and kiss him
Sugrnspicy, I am so sorry for your families loss. You all are in my thoughts and prayers {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
I am so sorry, Sugrnspicy. We went through the same thing not too long ago with my SR. He was allowed to come back for the showing and funeral. His grandpa was also one of the main reasons he decided to join the Navy. He was extremely proud of the man he became, as I'm sure your SR's grandpa was. It's definitely a sad way to meet your SR, but I'm glad they also let him come home for a bit. :) Now your SR will have his grandpa with him during BS. And he'll see him through to graduation! Prayers for your family.
doremi,
Yes, the SRs must pass the final PFA before they can participate in Battlestations~~
Hello All!
"Beloved, let us love one another,
for love is of God; and everyone who loves
is born of God and knows God."
I John 4:7
Sugrnspicy,
Prayers for God's comfort for your family's loss of a beloved Grandpa~~ Absent from the body, present with God and Jesus. It's good your SR can be home for the services. ((HUGS)) to you~~ <></
