Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

What kind of accent does he have, Emptynester? Just curious! Glad you are confirmed. You booked in your SR's name, right? Or do you and your husband have your own military ID? Navy Lodge needs to be booked in the SR's name if the family doesn't have their own military ID.

The Navy lodge confirmed today, yay! I told my husband the story and that I'd been calling every few days. He made the call this morning and got confirmation right away! Wonder if it was the accent?!!

The Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan had a great serve yourself hot breakfast too!! It is only about 3 years old or so?

I actually found our hotel by googling, like Emptynester suggested. The hotels that have had the most positive responses on here have been:
Navy Lodge (economical, close to RTC--about a mile away, book in your SR's name if you yourself don't have military ID)
Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express...all close together. We stayed at Residence about 4 yrs ago when up for my son's PIR and really liked it.

I've been using the hotels suggested in brochure we got with the form letter. Also, just googling hotels in Waukegan. Perhaps someone else has a better suggestion?

The Springhill Suites has now gone up to $94 per night (Navy rate). I also needed to check in one night earlier as it was suggested for those flying in that the weather can be changeable and go early just to make sure. They're charging $159 for the first night so I think I'll find something else!

Springhill Suites is one of the hotels many on here recommend! That along with Courtyard Inn, Residence Inn, and Holiday Inn Express...all very close together...about 4-5 miles from RTC (10 min).
