~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

If you haven't checked out my 'PERTINENT PIR TIPS" up in the Discussion Forum, please do so. It will save you alot of time in preparing for PIR and planning on how to get your Sailor back to RTC and to the airports to meet them and all types of other things~~

I would say to have family or a really good, trusted friend drop you off to the airport and pick you up when you come back, so you won't have to leave your car at the airport lot accumulating unnecessary daily parking fees. That way someone is always with you should you have to leave early in the morning or at night when it is dark.
Never leave any of your bags/luggage unattended where there is possibility of them getting stolen or something getting slipped in by a stranger. Check out my "PERTINENT PIR TIPS" up above in the Discussion Forum. I talk about how the airports want you to have your toiletries in a ziplock bag with your stuff as you go through the security checkpoint.
Keep alert and scan your surroundings to be aware of the people around you. Don't be so tired that you doze off by yourself. You can probably nap on the flight, but put your purse/large bag functioning as your purse in front of you underneath the seat in front of you. Take it with you when you go to the restroom. I usually don't do that as I have a daughter with me to watch it
Know which gate you are supposed to go to on the connecting flight and check it on a Departing flight board. Watch the signs overhead in the airport that will direct you where the gates are. When you arrive at the gate, go to the counter and make sure the agent verifies you are checked in. The you can go to the restroom if you need to.
Be prepared with knowing exactly where to go at your arriving airport to go to baggage claim and if you are renting a car, call them before you travel to ask them where do you check in to pick up the car. Do you just go to a counter at the airport or do you have to catch a car rental shuttle and where? Decide if you will want the daily insurance fee on the car and know the amount. I chose it because I don't usually drive in areas with snow and didn't want to deal with an accident if someone hits me. My insurance would have handled it, but I would rather the rental car agency handle it. If the weather was sunny and clear, I would have been fine.
At the hotel, don't tell strangers that you are traveling alone. The only ones who should know is the front desk when you check in. Always keep that lock on when you are in your room. When you leave your room to go out for the day, take your valuables and jewelry with you. Don't leave it on the table or a drawer. I leave a $2-$3 tip for the maid on the bathroom counter each day. Don't need to leave one on the day you check out.
Pre-plan your route to RTC or just schedule Sarge to pick you up by 6:15 am to go to PIR. You can do that at his Meet & Greet. It's $3 each way. Your Sailor hubby should be free to ride back to the hotel with you. Print out the route to the airport where your husband might be leaving to go to A school. I printed routes to both airports since I didn't know which airport my Sailor daughter was leaving out of.
Just don't look or act like you dont' know what you are doing and you won't be victimized. Don't flash your money. Take out only what you need to pay. Don't be careless with your hotel key or room number. Don't stuff the little folder that your room key came in with the room number showing in your purse. Have the key ready with you when you are approaching your room to go in. I get it out when I am going up the elevator. Do this so you are not standing by your room door fumbling for your room key. Look carefuly at how it is supposed to go in so you can operate the door knob quickly when the light flashes green or you hear a click.
Look around when approaching your vehicle before you get inside. This should be what your normally do anyway and scan the inside of the vehicle.
Well, ths is what I thought off the top of my head, but if there is anything else, ladies, please chime in or Kassay, just ask if you have any other questions.

How and who do I contact in order to purchase more photo's of my son's portrait and his division? Those photo's should be available now, correct?
kat: I'm not ellen.... :-) ....but what I would suggest is to take what you think he wants up PIR weekend....let him see what he can fit in his backpack at the airport...and take the rest home...shipping it to him later. I agree with ellen...they can receive no help in carrying their luggage, so any extra would be a little difficult for them.
Yes, that is what I meant. He wants to take some clothes and other things. Do you suggest I ship it?
