OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Dittersmom,

That is just the sweetest thing that Melany225 did for you and your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor!!  Love our Navy for Moms family!!   :D

Comment by Dittersmom on March 8, 2014 at 1:19am
Oh my goodness, i had the best day. Melany225 called me at approx 5:50am from her daughter's PIR. She was sitting by where many SR was doing railguard duty. She wanted to know if she could relay messages to him. I was so excited and my heart smiled and cried at the same time. She was so nice to share her time with me and giving me just a little more connection to my son. She took pictures and video of him. It was exciting to share it with my family. I have promised melany to pay it forward next week when I get there. I want another mom to feel the love and kindness that I felt today. Last thing: my 25 year old daughter saw the pictures that she sent and said that her brother looked like one of the little minions from despicable me. I thought it was funny.

Congrats to all of the SRs that have passed battle stations.
