~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Happy Friday!!
"Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your cares upon Him,
for He cares for you."
I Peter 5:6-7
The training does take place indoors, but they do have to get from building to building. No worries though, they have winter gear like no other. When my son was there he said he was almost too hot sometimes when all geared up.
Carrie, the recruiter told us several weeks ago (January 2014) that GL has been refurbished, remodeled quite a bit and most of the training now takes place indoors, as to compared to years ago. He said it was quite an improvement since he was in bootcamp. Perhaps someone else who has been there or been through it can verify.
Good Morning All !
Laurablue: You will like Residence...we stayed there 4 yrs ago for my son's PIR...very nice. We took the shuttle to PIR. Worked great for us! You sign up at the front desk at checkin for your time...or...you can contact Sarge (he holds a MeetandGreet the night before PIR for you all) and use his shuttle service. Same price $3/pp each way.
So does anyone else check in on this group just to see the weather and the countdown clock? :)
You are in the right place, Momof5! In fact, Div 103 will be the first division in this PIR group! Which means...your SR will be one of the first to become a sailor since they go in order for their final test, BattleStations! Welcome!
Recruiter gave me address and "projected" PIR date of 3.14, so hopefully I'm in the right place and won't be moving next door :) My son is Ship 14, DIV 103, arrived 1.14. I got the first call, the box last Monday and am awaiting a form letter to confirm PIR and crossing my fingers for a call soon.
A huge thanks to all of you who take your time to support the N4M site. I would be lost without you!
Friends,
Also want to let you know that you can put your SR's cell phone on Military Suspension for the 2 months that he/she wiil be in Boot Camp. Just contact your cell phone carrier after your SR has made his/her "I'm Here" call and the phone is on its way back to you in The Box or any time after you get it back. You can do this for free and it will save on the monthly charges on that phone. You can re-activate it for the day before PIR. I was able to easily re-activate my daughter's cell phone online at Verizon Wireless.
Cherie,
There are also Challenge Coins designed specifically for the Recruit Training Command ships by Craig one of our N4M veteran parents here. They can only be found at www.pirgifts.com. If you click on any one of the coins, there is a video where you can see the history of the Challenge Coin. They are only given as gifts by family and friends now. My Sailor daughter really liked her cool Ship 03 USS Hopper coin when I gave it to her at PIR~~
