Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hang in there Christi/Zach & Kellismom!!!  Turbomama is right......that envelope will be a sight from heaven!  Hoping that it is soon for both of you... :o>

Comment by kellismom on February 1, 2013 at 5:10pm

Still waiting for my letter...she wrote to her fiance!!  Geeeze....  : )

Comment by diannep on February 1, 2013 at 3:54pm

Christi:  My son told me that he would not write (didn't like to--texting/emailing like everyone else was what he liked) when he left back in 2009.  He told me he would call when he could....well, he wrote me about 5 letters, each 2 pages long!  A record for him.  They quickly change their tune (most of them do) when they get there and are missing the connection with home!  So keep an eye on your mailbox!

Betsy, you're so right about their handwriting. My SR had notoriously bad penmanship, which was never a big deal when he just texted or e-mailed. He wrote me a few pages in a row and the third one had nearly perfect recruit handwriting. Haha!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on February 1, 2013 at 3:05pm

letters are always good misspelled words and all lol

Comment by Turbomona on February 1, 2013 at 2:47pm

Hoping they are doing something to keep warm today my accu weather shows it to be 8*. My goodness!

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on February 1, 2013 at 2:38pm

Lol, about the misspellings.  They are probably so totally exhausted by the time that they are able to write, that they could actually forget their own name.   I bet some of you will also be surprised at how neat their handwriting has become in the last couple of weeks, too (that is if they had poor handwriting before, lol)  It's amazing how quickly they learn to write neatly while in processing.  :)

Prayers for warm thoughts (and bodies) for all those there at GL today.

Christi/Zach'smom my son is in 11-114 & got a short sweet letter I really hope you do also it is a sight from heaven to see just the envelope <3 & Tracy your explanation is correct they do have to write at night as per our phone call so mine was in 3 sections but so worth it!

Comment by JenBo on February 1, 2013 at 1:37pm

Congrats to those who just got letters! Tracy, my SR was making unusual misspellings too. One explanation could be that they are allowed to write after taps (lights out) and some racks don't have very much light for reading or writing letters. So his brain could be okay! Haha. Oh, and PIR is indoors! :)

Comment by tracylp2000 on February 1, 2013 at 1:07pm

YAY! YAY! YAY!  Got a letter from by SR last night.....short and sweet, not much detail....and I can tell his brain is mush....poor baby misspelled his OWN NAME, TWICE!!!!  I could almost hear his voice in the letter.....aaahhhhhhhhh.   Not sure how PIR ceremony works (if its inside or out)....but my cousin is there TODAY for her son......WISHING HER WARM THOUGHTS and a big congratulations to her SR!!!!
