Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Lala, stay safe!  I think it's heading this way later today. Yikes!

Lala - your weather sounds like mine last night. Hold on tight!

Good morning everyone, I hope you are having a nice, warm, calm, and dry day :) We are under high winds and flood advisory, 70 mph wing gusts, 2 inches of rain and possibly damaging hail and tornadoes. Calgon take me away lol

Thanks to all that answered my questions about driving on to base for PIR. I showed my husband everyone's responses and we'll probably be calling Sarge for a lift lol. I am directionally impaired..'he' drives like a maniac lol. So for both of our sanities this might be the best option.

FTLW - I have no idea why the numbered list buttons blow up the font like that. It did it to me too.

ANOTHER QUESTION- So I know about Sarge's service but how does one go about finding information on PIR Shuttles? I haven't come across anything in my perusing of this site.

Hi tracylp2000 - I just saw your post from yesterday about your son being in the same ship/div as my SR!

daphelps:  Not sure what airport you will fly from, but if Southwest Airlines is available to you (I know they fly in/out of Austin), there is no change fee if you have to change reservations for any reason...and you get 2 bags checked for free per ticket.  Both of these save lots of money.  They fly into Milwaukee WI (45 minute drive to GL, cheaper car rental, usually cheaper fares than Chicago) and Chicago-Midway (hour or more to GL, more traffic, more expensive car rental, but one of the airports your sailors will fly from and you plan to meet your sailor at the airport for a visit).

Good Morning All!

Jazzy's Mom - Here are my answers!

  1. It wasn't for me! But then I was very nervous about driving and it turned out to be FUN. God just blessed one of the scary parts for me! I was in the line around 7AM (go a little earlier than that though :-)) on Buckley (runs West to East from the Navy Lodge and what I call the "front" of RTC. Recruits/Sailors were out on Buckley asking if we were going to PIR as only the far left lane was open to through traffic. We were going to be making a right on Ohio which is the street that Gate 8 is on (entrance Gate for PIR) Drove in followed it around to the covered Parking Garage which has two floors (at least, don't remember if there is a third!) and an uncovered overflow lot.
  2. The covered Parking Garage is close enough! It flows into the Visitors Center which you walk through. At the end of that is Security checkpoint. Then it flows into Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall. (There'll be walking no matter which side you enter from AND if you go across Base to the NEX. It is a walk!)
  3. I recommend that you do what you are going to be most comfortable with. Some like the shuttle as they don't have to drive wait in line. The shuttle drops you off outside Gate 8 and you walk onto RTC. You will be at the opposite end of the Parking Garage and the Visitors Center. I believe there is an entrance there (I am still trying to get a detailed confirmation on this!). Some have said that IF there is a line to get in you are standing out in the elements.
  4. Ditto :-) LOL
  5. This would be my fave option...HOOYAH!

I have had some drive and wish they had shuttled and some shuttle and wish that they drove. I just had one mom report that they were waiting for a shuttle from their hotel and they were many waiting and the shuttles were slow (the weather) and so they cleaned off the car and drove over. It was around 7 AM and they drove right in. have had the opposite of others waiting in long line of car to enter RTC.

& Thank you diannep for your info :) Ill keep checking!

daphelps I would suggest a major airport, we live in the Sacramento area & it is twice the amount to fly from SMF than San Francisco!
