~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Turbomona:  Sometimes the Recruit Training Command will post random pictures on their FB site.  But no guarantee.  Just every now and then, they will have some pictures.  There are no pictures posted on this site.

Jazzy's Mom,

1. Nope not a problem parking, there are sailors all around to point you to where you will be parking. (get there early though)

2. That depends on how far away you end up parking (get there early)

3. Driving there is up to you (driving does give you a little more "freedom", and get there early)

4. Call Sarge if you don't want to drive. Great source for info, help and taxi service. 847.212.0246

5. Good idea, but I think the local Navy Seals would be busy (it would be awesome though)

Sarah:  Any chance you can check on fares with Southwest?  Is that available in your area?  No change fee, 2 bags check for free.  They fly into Milwaukee and Chicago Midway.  An SR can be asmoed (setback) at any point during bootcamp so there is no guarantee that changes will not need to be made.

My son was asmoed and we didn't know about Southwest then.  Had flights already. :-(  Two tickets, which would be a $300 (total) change fee.  UGH!  What helped is that the new flights--same flights, different days-- were actually cheaper so it was like the change fee was $89/per person instead of $150.  So saved some there!

jazzy:  I know that Lala and FTLW drove to RTC...I don't believe it was a hassle other than you need to be in the car line early.  The shuttles bypass the car lines so anyone taking a shuttle has no problem.  Lala and FTLW will probably post more later about the specifics.

I would suggest either taking the PIR shuttles or using Sarge's service if you don't want to drive.  The shuttles are easy and your sailor rides back with you (unless staying in GL for a School in which case your sailor moves over there shortly after PIR is over and you will pick your sailor up later at that base).

I think the SEAL idea is a great one....check into that!  :-)

Jazzy's Mom, thank you for being so patient and waiting for your turn, lol.

1.  Unfortunately, I can't answer that one, because we did take the shuttle.

2.  Sorry, again, I'm no help to you.  :(

3.  Waukegan is only about 10 minutes to RTC, but allow yourself time and be prepared to wait in line to get onto the base if you do drive.

4.  Everyone loves Sarge, so probably a great idea.

5.  Wouldn't that be awesome?  :)

I HAVE QUESTION(S) FOR A PIR VETERAN MOM, PLEASE. Raising hand and waiting patiently to be called on.

  1. For those of us renting cars and driving to our hotel, is parking a hassel at RTC?
  2. How close is parking to where we have to check in?
  3. We are staying at Springhill Waukegan, would you recommend driving to RTC?
  4. Calling Sarge and schedule a shuttle?
  5. See if the any local Seals can parachute me down as close to the bleachers as possible and then I can just do a run and duck movement into my seat?
