~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

trevsmom ~ So sorry you missed the call ! The phone in the bra idea is fantastic. :) Hang in there and try not to feel guilty or bad, write lots of letters, that is way important to them in boot. Hang in there Navy Mom ! PIR will be here sooner than you think.
Lindac ~ Yes I would send a phone card right away. I know how you feel about going crazy .. I have to admit that I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about how he is doing. but I did get to talk to him yesterday and it made it better. He was homesick and all, so that was hard to listen too. You will get 'the box' soon, when we got our box .. I had to laugh.. cuz I just finished cleaning his room and doing all of his laundry and MORE came in 'the box'. lol
Trevsmom: I'm so sorry you missed it...most likely he will not get to call back today since other divisions have to call and there are limited phone banks for them. Next time you are going to a place like that, put your phone in your bra....seriously! Make sure it will vibrate and I guarantee you will not miss the call! :-) ellen calls it the VBS....vibrating bra syndrome! HA! But it works! At least you have the message to listen to over and over again....hoping he will call again in the next couple of weeks.
Good Morning All!
I got a phone call from my SR yesterday but I missed it. The number was on my call log twice a minute apart. He left me a voicemail. I cannot describe how upset I am that I missed his call. I always have my phone with me, we were at a restaurant and it was so loud-I didn't even hear it ring. :( Do you know if he will get a chance to call me again today?
LyndaC, I am guessing that your SRs box will probably arrive for you sometime this week, the form letter maybe the same.
Phone calls are random, they can get them and have them taken away. You may get a phone call about half way through BC and will most likely get a phone call after BS. If they have duty, medical appointment, etc. it can interfere with their calls. If your SR did not take a phone card I would recommend sending one (they cause no issue when received).
Always keep your phone handy, even running out to the mailbox, or bathroom breaks, you never know. Always look forward to receiving one at anytime, but never expect one. :)
no box or letter yet. my SR left on 1/17/2013- Anyone else still waiting? am so anxious, it's driving me crazy!!! Do they get any calls and do i need send him a phone card? help
Hey Brent's mom - it was so awesome to hear from our boys today!!! It made me feel so much better to hear his voice, we laughed & cried!! He said the guys in thier division are great!! I'm sorry your son did not get to talk to his dad, Colton's dad & I are divorced, but he got to get a quick call to his dad as well!! Colton is 19!
Kim ~ Wow ! that is way cool that they are doing it together. You have twice the pride then ! nice.
diannep ~ WOW ! thanks for the encourage words ! I know they will all be ok. My husband is a USNavy vet, and so is his father and his father. But hard to not worry about my SR ! awwww ~ to let go ~ and let them grow ~
Beachbum ~ Glad you got to hear his voice that is AWESOME !
Lulu ~ hey thanks ! I am sure you will get to her from him soon, it is so hit and miss and random when they get to call. I have been sending letters daily. that helps.
Kim ~ Did you say boys ? Do you have two sons in boot ?
Lala Wounded Warriors has been wonderful. They also flew Brett's sister from Atlanta to see him when he was still in JAX at Shands, and they also flew his brother/dad from SC. They were very touched as finances were getting tough, and time limited (as far as driving each time), to get to him. Didn't realize that Wounded Warriors flew his wife/baby to see him in Tampa? WOW! I knew that his mother in law had driven his wife and their new 1 week old baby girl from Jax to Tampa to surprise him back in December...that was the best! She visits regularly now, leaving her newborn and 20 mo old with her mom or my friend in JAX so she can have time with him. And....Brett was able to spend two nights with her in the housing facility they have there (my friend said it is GORGEOUS) for families of the wounded being treated there. That was some very special time for them!
Kim: Congrats on the phone calls! Yes, now you see how random calls are! My son got to call me 3 days after he arrived (he had already given me the I'm Here call). It was Thanksgiving and so the RDCs in his division gave them each about a 4 minute call. It was wonderful.
austincmom: Welcome to the group! Glad you found it. Expect that many of them will be homesick right now, down, tired, confused (lots of yelling going on from their RDCs!), and some will be sick that could be from a combination of lots of shots at once (resistance is compromised for a while)...and...lots of germs around with about 88 SRs in their division! But they recover and are given a couple of "light days" in training if they are really feeling bad...enough to rest and still make up their time.
Just stay on this page and post when you want to...ask questions....we are here to help you all through (I am one of the N4Moms vets on here to help listed at the top of this page).
Try not to worry...there is a saying in the Navy: NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS Sometimes you just have to claim that. If they are delayed in their training and moved out of their division for any reason, you will be contacted. Otherwise....just keep praying for them and know they are moving forward!
