~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

*artery to leg was not only severed, but chunk take out so couldn't be quickly repaired.
This is my friend Brett Parks. His mom as been my good friend since childhood, our parents best friends. He entered the Navy a year before my son and was the one who influenced my son to do it. Brett is based in Jacksonville FL...he is a personal trainer "on the side" and was meeting a client at an apt complex in Oct. There was an attempted mugging there, he heard a man yelling for help, went to help, and was shot in the abdomen. He lost a kidney, much of his intestine, almost bled to death (cheated death several times after this), and obviously lost his leg because the artery in the abdomen that brings blood to the leg was not only severed. He is a fighter and fought with his doctors to save the leg for a couple of weeks after the injury, but to save his life, they had to take his leg. He was in the hospital up there for 2 mos, and is now in Tampa at the rehab. He has endured about 10 surgeries at this point. His baby girl in this picture was born without him present for the birth, but his wonderful wife Susan has brought her to see him in Tampa (3 hr drive) several times since she was born in Dec. This is our FL governor in the picture. Brett was just presented with the Medal of Merit award....an award a person can only receive once in a lifetime. He is one of only four people in the state who have received this. We are so very proud of him! Please pray for Brett as he continues to get better so he can return to his wife, baby girl and his precious 20 mos old son. The Navy has been wonderful to Brett during this time...since sailors are considered "on duty" at all times, this was considered an act in the line of duty. They did catch the guy who did it...22 yrs old. The victim is fine, although they think that Brett may have saved HIS life by blocking a bullet. This who story just touches my heart and makes me cry for them at the same time.
