~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Any calls or notifications about todays Captains Cup?
Here are the rules for liberty PIR weekend, there may be more, your SR will have been briefed regarding them. There is zero tolerance for drinking alcohol and smoking, and yes your new sailor might be seen by someone outside of base. While in the drill hall you can hug your sailor, and give your sailor a kiss.
http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/rules_liberty.asp
Also to let you know, your sailor may be a little paranoid (zombie like LOL) at first when off base. They have been watched, told what to do and when to do it for the last eight weeks or so. They are told that anyone could be watching them while on liberty that weekend (and it can happen).
Don't worry about your sailor if they look at everyone they pass as though they are going to get yelled at by them (yes, even the grandmas, grandpas, moms with babies..LOL). Just reassure them they are doing fine! Gentle reminders, covers (hats) off inside and on when outside (if they have forgotten).
Your sailor may fall asleep at any given moment, sitting in a chair, riding on the train or in the car. Let them sleep (of course don't miss your train stop...LOL), It isn't unusual and there is nothing wrong, they just have not been able to relax for a while and suddenly they have "down time"
It won't take them long to get used to their new found freedom, and get back to their usual self.
Also, if you are staying at the Navy Lodge and are outside the hotel when it is time for colors, you can hear Taps being played. Your sailor, although they cannot see the flag, will probably, or should stop and face the direction of the sound until it is finished. So, if suddenly they become a statue, and turn in a different direction, they are not hearing voices and exiting reality, they are doing exactly what they are supposed to do. The first time I saw my son do this PIR weekend, I just stood there and cried, it made me even more proud of what he was doing.
It is coming fast for you all. Less than a week, and the best hug ever is yours!

this was a link on ebay to contact the seller. maybe it will help
catmom and power0806, is there some way I can get in touch with Craig? I didn't want to wait so ordered last night. When I put in the address of Navy Lodge it was saying it wasn't a recognizable USPS address. So I had it sent to CT, where we live. I don't think it will make it here by Wed.

found the real link! Also reading that there is a Zero tolorance for drinking alcohol. The days of the drunken sailor image are gone. You can be dismissed even before leaving for A school - they are not messing around with this.

Found the rules for Walking Around Base After PIR. Good to know before you Go.
power: You are not allowed to hold hands or have arms around your sailor when walking. Proper PDA is this: You may take the crook of his left arm, leaving his right arm available to salute at all times. Believe me, your sailor will be well versed of these rules and, yes, they are told they are being watched around town (some Navy personnel will be in plain clothes) and they could have consequences for improper behavior. Lost liberty....those flying out are even told that they can be detained at RTC (scared my son to death so he even wanted to skip dinner with us when the restaurant we arrived at by GPS was closed...he insisted on being back 45 minutes early after liberty...but it does take a while for them to walk back to their ships...and they have to WALK, can't run...plus...in the Navy, "when you are on time, you are LATE!" )
Here is some more info for you:
OH what a beautiful morning!!!! I'm the mom of a Sailor :)
At one point I recall stumbling on some Navy Etiquette for walking with our new sailors at PIR. Does anyone recall seeing this and can you provide the link? During a chat it was also mentioned that Senior Officers In and Out of uniform will be watching at all the local hangouts for infractions to uniform and behavior during the PIR weekend - they can still be disciplined for these until they leave the base.
The rules were a bit strict by civilian standards, but they have earned these signs of respect and I will be all to happy to honor my new sailor by following these rules.
