Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I was "PIR group hopping" this morning and posted that on the wrong group (deleted it now). That was for the 03/15 group, whose divisions finished up their BattleStations this morning. So sorry about that!

And, no 121/122 have not gone yet....but "very soon." I have the date...can't post it here though....looks like 121-124 may be going the same night. Jessica, I think your call will be before then! :-)

Comment by CatMom509 on March 12, 2013 at 8:48pm: Hey, if you are looking for a great gift for your new sailor, you can order a Challenge Coin of their ship on www.pirgifts.com from eBay. Craig was a sailor and is one of the adminstrators for the Cryptologic groups here. My daughter really liked hers and it is a specific connection to their Boot Camp days! They do not receive one from the Navy for Boot Camp.

Comment by diannep on March 12, 2013 at 3:00pm: OOOPS! Sorry about that, Jersey Sam. Didn't see your earlier post so didn't realize she already graduated. So sorry you missed the presentation...I don't blame you for being upset about that. Seems that RTC should followup with calls to the parents/family designated member (maybe RDCs could do this) to make sure the info is received. Can't always rely on the mail these days!
