Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by ChambosMom on February 21, 2013 at 11:40pm: I would think they would go to all that so trouble if your son was not going to PIR. You never know, there could always be more to my sons friends story. So what are Peanut Butters?

Comment by Carolyn on February 21, 2013 at 11:06pm: My son got fitted for dress blues and whites and peanut butters. I had to look up "peanut butters" to see what they were. He has extremely flat feet and I was getting concerned when I saw the comments here about them being sent home. Surely they wouldn't fit them for their uniforms unless they were pretty sure they were going to make it to PIR, would they?

Comment by Carolyn on February 21, 2013 at 11:04pm: Also, Chambos mom: my son ran cross country and played basketball in high school, but got up to 300 after he graduated. He is 6'7" and was told he had to get down to 226 to go. He got it down to 226 and 21 per cent body fat. I was so proud of him for working so hard and can't wait to see what he looks like now!!

Surely they wouldn't have fitted him for the uniforms if they weren't sure he would make it to PIR, would they?
