Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Stephany - So sorry to hear about your brother. I hope that you find out soon.  I wish the best for him :-)

We have a group for Ship 5 on here and there are moms on there who have been through the process. They can give you more info and lots of support. Here is the link : Ship 5 Moms(Formerly Ship 17)

As far as the type of discharg, it would depend on what he is being discharged for...but I agree with LaLa that dishonorable is not a common ne ( if ever).

Seperation from the military is "characterized" and there are several different types and they are based on the conduct or service performed by the military members. Usually what we see given is an ELS or Entry Level Seperation. This is usually given to those with less than 180 days of service (or if the seperation was initiated before that 180 days). It is not honorable ,dishonorable or general (under honorable conditions...and those all have their guidelines) . It's not "anything" really. The Commander can issue this as there was not enough time "in-service" to adequately measure it.  Usually not a problem...but I have had a mom "educate" a college about it when they tried to say otherwise!

Here are some links to Military discharges:

That makes me feel much better. I still feel bad for my little brother and still not sure what the issue is, but I will feel better if it doesn't hurt his future in other endeavors. I appreciate everything very much.

Stephany, it has been my understanding that they don't normally give dishonorable during boot camp training. I hope you hear something soon. i know the waiting and not knowing is the hardest part. You both are in my thoughts and prayers <3

He is currently in/on Ship 5. I'm not sure of the exact reason though. I'm worried about it being a dishonorable and screwing up his whole life. :/

Stephany - SHIP 5 is where Recrutis move to if they are being discharged from BootCamp/the Navy. :-(

Has a problem come up with your SR or did the SHIP just come up in a converstion?
