OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I hope you find out he will be there for A-school so you can have all that extra time with him :)

Thanks LaLa and diannep.  My daughter and I will stay till Moday monring but my hubby has to fly back Sunday night for work.  I don't want to miss any time with my son, and also want to make sure he can be off base for as long as possible after boot camp.

A little slow on here today. i hope everyone had an extra day off from work and was off having fun. I spent time cleaning lol.... Not fun!!! haha

Comment by diannep on February 18, 2013 at 9:22am

beachlover:  I agree with Lala.  Plan to stay until Sunday night, if possible...just in case he will stay in GL and have LIberty through Sunday (daytime liberty through the weekend).

If he does fly out on Saturday, you can do some nice sightseeing after he leaves!  Lots to see in the Chicago area!

Good Morning All!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on February 17, 2013 at 10:46pm

yeah, i noticed that as well. I sent a message to Craig and asked him but he sent me the same link I had posted for you. He is off traveling the world right now lol and when he gets to Hong Kong he is supposed to send me more info :) I think the best plan would be to plan to stay as long as you can. If you stay until Sunday and he does leave on Saturday you will still be able to meet him at the airport on Saturday and then maybe do some site seeing before you some home on Sunday. If he stays in Great Lakes you will have at least one extra day and maybe two if your flight is later in the afternoon or evening on Sunday. If I find any more info I will let you know.
