~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hang in there sweetie. I'm sure you'll get a call soon. I did't know about his wisdom teeth being pulled. He is conditioned to be in the Navy. Keep your spirits up. We love you.

That is correct...and here is where it begins. Not posting last names (a part of this sites Community Guidelines.BTW, This site is sponsored by the Navy.) is a "foundational stepping stone" in the future of being a part of the military family. You may possibly be asked to keep a lot more to yourself than just not posting a last name. In fact, for those who have Sailors with very sensitive ratings...you may not even know what they are doing as they won't be able to tell you.
Since I have been doing "this" for 30 years...I agree with Betsy in that it is hard...at times lonely. Hubby is a reservist so no FRG to connect with...plus some bad experiences in his "real job" connecting with spouses. Just because your spouse has "buds" doesn't always mean you'll connect with the "buds" spouse.
When I found this site I was very nervous I would "mess up" and say too much. At the same time so thankful as I had had no one really consistent that I knew felt the same way I did. Even though I don't ever post specifics I knew I could come here for info and just knowing that there were others feeling the same way I was was a comfort. I didn't feel so "alone" anymore.

Sam, I have to agree with diannep about the last name.  It is always a good plan to start observing OPSEC rules early and get used to practicing them.  My son is in Intel and currently deployed in the middle east.  I have learned to keep a lot to myself in the last 2 years and it's hard.   I really didn't understand all the "rules" on here when I first joined either, but they are there for the safety of your sailor and we can never do enough to help keep them safe.

My son said week 3 starts tomorrow, so count from there (no calendar near me right now). You don't count weekends so tomorrow is day 3.1, Friday is day 3.2 Monday is 3.3 and so on.  His PIR is 3/22.

Nick' Mom - so week 7 is the week of 3/11, right?

So glad some of you got calls. :)

Sam, sorry you feel that way.  We are just trying to enforce the rules.  Please read the link above which is clear about no last names on here.

OPSEC must be followed at all times, on this entire site, not just here on the PIR groups.  Hope you change your mind and decide to stay.

Got the 4th call from my SR tonite, so awesome since I missed his call Saturday morning while I was out shoveling 26 inches of snow from the blizzard.  Said the unit was working well together.  Still has a severe head cold, no wisdom teeth out (unsure why when others had theirs pulled) but did have a cavity filled today.  Passed the written test yesterday and remains positive and upbeat he can do this.  He cannot wait to eat some seafood and a good steak and sleep in his own bed!  Will have to wait a few more months for that (he is in the Reserves).  He also said the next call probably would be the 'I'm a Sailor call' in the 7th week.  Hope everyone else in this division got a call tonite too!  Letters are arriving and he enjoys then a lot so family members.....keep writing.  Hope everyone is hanging in there.....

Looks like Ship 03 Division 123 called tonite, Wed. 2/13.    Its the usual 3 week call I was told!  Guess they all get that.  Won't call again until week 7 - ickes, thats like a long time away!

Comment by CTMom on February 13, 2013 at 10:45pm

My son is in RCU recovering from a fractured elbow. He shadows DIV 125/126, so I'm not sure if the call came from that DIV or his RCU DIV 2341. He saw his doctor today, so I sometimes get a call to update us on his status. I know it's hard..hang in there, they're almost done! <3

Comment by diannep on February 13, 2013 at 10:14pm

Sam:  We can't post SR's last names on this site.  Sorry!  But...you can copy and paste your post, take the last name out, and put the first initial and what city the SR is from....that is ok.  Then just delete your post with the last name in it (click the "x" in the post box).  Thanks!

Congrats on the calls!
