~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Great piks, Lala!  What a treat!  Hope you are having fun!

I thought I would share some photos with all of you. As most of you know we are visiting our Sailors this week and since the Truman did not deploy we got to take a tour of it today. It was so cool. If you ever get the chance to tour your Sailor's ship in the future take advantage of it. It was super cool :)

Thank you for all the support. I have sent 6 letters already reminding him that . We all know he can do this and that he is not alone there are 88 others thinking and feeling the same thing. This will all turn out fine. :)

cameronleigh:  I agree with ellen.  Remind him that A School is a whole different situation...more like college where they are back in contact with you.  And...you can even visit them at A School (once they phase up which is relatively quickly for most of them).  They don't feel like they are in "prison" like they do at bootcamp.  :-)  They can go off-base (again, after phasing up) and do things---they have lots more freedom.

So keep that encouragement coming!  I'm sure he is not alone in his feelings...mine (23 at the time) was talking so negatively when he was first there back in 2009 that I thought he wanted to quit!  He was stunned that I would think that and said...no way...he was going to get through it! Like ellen said also, by training week #4 (which is about bootcamp week #5)....they start feeling more positively about everything and know they have accomplished alot by then.  So hang in there!

I would write as often as you can to him, and get others to write too.  Those letters really do help them.

cameronleigh, It is normal, I know this sounds repetitive, but just keep reminding him he is strong and can do this. It is only a few weeks before PIR and he will be able to talk to you every day if he wants.

The first letters always seem to be the worst, but about the fourth week of training, you will see a huge difference. You may even see a big difference in his next letter. Their moods will change quickly and remember it has been several days since he wrote that, he may already be over that emotion for now already.

Even my son, at 26 years old in BC, was homesick. The letter I got from him after he received my first letter said, "I never thought a letter from my mom would turn me into a big gooey mushball", which of course turned me into one too. :)

Comment by cameronleigh on February 7, 2013 at 5:17pm

I received my son's first letter today. He says he is very homesick and wants to come home. Is this normal? I don't now what to do or how to respond to that. I would hope that after he starts to receive our letters he will feel better.

Kelly'sMom:  Go to Lala's page and look at the ribbons.  You can message her from there!

Yes, mail is received M-F but as Lala said, they can't write/mail out everyday.

Lala ribbon queen, can you tell me about these ribbons and the cost ? Thanks !

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on February 7, 2013 at 10:45am

It can be different with each division, especially in the beginning. most have it every day except Sunday and the letters they write on Sundays are mailed Mondays. Near the end of boot camp some of them will get to mail letters twice a week :)

Good morning everyone :)
